I have a pretty darn large post today. It took so long to write this on the other fourm that I've decided to cut and paste the same text from there. Here we go...
I have a psuedo-After Action Report. I ran a Star Wars RPG this weekend for some old gaming buddies. We use the old West End Games D6 rules, so the pace is quick and it's simple enough to easily change things on the fly. I took photos during the game. Unfortunately I forgot to put the memory card in the camera, so those pictures don't actually exist. Instead I've tried to replicate what happened from fuzzy memories of what turned out to be a very fun game. Sorry if this is a little long. Here goes...
Our heroes (all former Rebel soldiers and mercenaries) discover people on the planet Sedwarr are disappearing at an alarming rate. When their waitress disappears before returning with their drinks, they go to investigate. After a quick gun battle with some Stormtroopers who were kidnapping the waitress, they grab the trooper's transport and return to the base to find out what is gong on. The Imperials are guarding a Medical research lab, hidden in an old mining tunnel network near the starport. They are confronted at the first security checkpoint.
After another quick battle (They got the drop on the Stormtroopers) they spot a man stumbling around a corner at the back of the cave.
He's muttering incoherently. Suddenly he grabs his head. His head starts to pulse, then expand. Growing larger and larger. He softly says "Oh, I guess I was infected too." And his head falls off. It plops to the ground. Then starts to grow legs. Lots of legs. A tendril sprouts out of the back of his head.
It opens it's glowing green eyes, and then attacks. It leaps onto Brand, a Tech specialist. His buddy Alex, the ex-Clone Trooper bounty hunter waste no time in shooting the thing with his blaster shotgun. The blast destroys the evil head thing. (And does a little damage to Brand as well.) A black cloud seeps from the dead things body. Then the cloud attacks one of the Rebels. This time it's Grogan, a Demolitions Specialist who has spent more then his fair share of time in a Bacta tank.
From here things get kinda fuzzy. Our heroes find a hidden entrance into the lab.
They are confronted by creepy Cyber-Zombie Things. They find more Black Clouds. They discover that the Black Clouds will infect them, possibly turning them into Cyber-Zombie things, or maybe just making their swollen head fall off. They discover this the hard way, by getting infected. A med-pack will cure the infection if used correctly. As it turns out, so will a Stun-Blast.
The action is fast, furious and not a little ridiculous as one character after another is pulled down into a near-by pit by a pair of Dianogas (Trash-compactor monsters). Some of the characters dive into the watery pit to save their friends. Some dive in to escape yet more of the black clouds. During all this, an alert goes off, announcing that the facility will self destruct in ten minutes.
Alex the Bounty Hunter gets tired of waiting so he goes off on his own. He finds a door and opens it. Inside he finds a Female Cyber-Zombie Thing that attacks him.
Oh, and he notices that the weird purple Bio-Mechanical things growing out of the ground disgorge even more Black Clouds. Alex eventually kills the Female Cyber-Zombie Thing with the help of Brand. At this point they have learned their lesson. They really shouldn't split up.
But Grogan hasn't learned a damn thing. Grogan goes off to check out one of the other doors by himself. He finds some living quarters. Living quarters with lots of lots of Cyber-Zombie Things.
So Grogan shuts that door.
At this point Alex and Brand are checking out a pair of terminals they found in the room they were in.
Brand discovers he can use this Life Support terminal to purge all the Black Clouds out of the lab area. Alex figures out how to shut down the Self Destruct. Unfortunately while trying to gain remote control of the doors, he trips a security override that opens all of the doors and disables his terminal.
Meanwhile Job, a retired Rebel soldier who knows everyone, has an idea. He'll climb into the ventilation shafts Brand used to purge the Black Clouds and find a way out of the lab. Unfortunately, there's something living in the ventilation shafts.
Fortunately for Job, Brand unwittingly purges the ventilation system with a hydro-flush which ejects the old rebel and all the Cyber-Zombie Head Things out of a hatch. A hatch one thousand meters above a drainage reservoir. Job saves himself, the heads do not. At this point all of the characters are trying to get to one of the ventilation hatches to escape.
Brand is charting the best path through the ventilation shafts when he and Alex are interrupted by three monstrous creatures that have come through the open doorway.
They scramble into the ventilation shaft just as the biggest of the creatures fires his massive beam weapon.
With the security doors open, all the Cyber-Zombie Things from the Living Quarters go hunting for Grogan.
They chase Grogan and Starsayr (an elite gunman and old friend of Grogans) into the Infirmary where a pair of experimental Auto-Docs caught the demolitions specialist's interest. Starsayr tries to hold off the mobs while Grogan, who is severely wounded at this point, tries to get into the ventilation hatch in his area. Starsayr miraculously takes out the mob of creatures, and with the help of the just arrived Brand and Alex, they get Grogan into the shaft. From there they meet up with Job in the shuttle. As they fly away from the lab Grogan uses what little energy he has left to reactive the self-destruct. The research lab explodes.
The Cave tiles are from the caverns of the Hook Mountain Massacre Pathfinder module. The doors are a plasticard version of the DMs Craft Sci-Fi Doors. The "ventilation shaft" is a corridor section I've been playing around with for a sci-fi Tilescapes project I've been wprking on. The Cyber-Zombie Things are all Sedition Wars miniatures. The player characters are all WOTC bendy plastic figures. The Barracks beds and lockers are Spartan Games terrain pieces they used to make. I think that just about covers the 'where did you get that?" part of the post. I can explain more later if anyone is interested.
