First off, I think it is great. You really have a knack for figures. I with I had half the skill you have. I also picked up some Fimo like TM uses. I have gotten to it yet. How is it less easy to work with compared to SS? Let's talk about the figure: I love the face, I don't know if it is the light or the angle or if it is the face itself, but it almost has an elvish quality to it. Im not intirely sure what that quality is though... Are you doing clothes? It kind of looks like he has a shirt and pants on. If that is the case will you be defining them? I have really only have two pieces of constructive criticism: The neck may be a little long (thought I am no expert with proportions). And will you be smoothing out the sculpt more? Have you tried olive oil and colour shapers yet... it works great. Again, I am very impressed and it is an improvement over the last one. Keep it up! Thank you curufin. I think your a pretty damn good sculptor in your own right. The figures you've made have been really good, and the accessories just blow me away.
Super Sculpey shapes easier for me. I use the flesh colored stuff, rather then the Firm. The grey mix of classic white and classic black Fimo is much firmer then I'm use to, and it crumbles a bit when I try to push it like I would SS. I really need to use more water while working the clay. Or maybe olive oil. I hadn't tried that yet. I am starting to get the hang working the mixed Fimo. (I still haven't figured out what proportions of white to black Tom Mason uses. It's not one to one, that's for sure.)
I hadn't noticed the elven quality before. It's probably the slant of the eyes and eyebrow ridge. And he does have some serious ears.
I am going to add clothing eventually. I ended up making the shirt sleeves just so I knew where the wrists would be. The pants are there too, but I haven't defined the belt yet. I'll define those when I decide what he's wearing.
Thank you for noticing the neck. This is one of those things I have problems seeing. Now that you mention it the neck is too long. Looks like he's gonna be wearing a turtleneck. Anatomy and proportions have always been a bugaboo for me. Believe it or not I have done a lot of smoothing on this guy. It's just that I keep adding fingerprints while I'm fixing other stuff. Next time I'll have to try the olive oil.
Thank you so much for the constructive criticism. I hope I wasn't too defensive, because this is exactly what I wanted.

Thank you everyone. sotf, I have some Reaper dollies around somewhere. I've been making the armatures that Tom Mason shows in his videos, and they seem to be working for me. I have a cheat sheet taped to the bottom of my cutting mat with all the measurements written down so I know how far along the wire I need to twist the wire and make bends. Could you share said cheat-sheet?

Could you share said cheat-sheet? Sure. Here's a photo of it. These numbers are what I could get out of watching the two Making an Armature videos over and over again. Not an update, but I did get something interesting at the flea market today. The proportions aren't right, but it'll make a great start. I can add plasticard and putty to fill gaps, and can replace the cockpit. Give it a nice paint job and I'll have a great set piece. Not bad for $6.

What do you mean, the proportions aren't right? It looks like a modified Corellion YT-2400 to me!
I'd say paint the Cockpit windows black and you have yourself a winner! Might need to make a ramp from Plasticard or Cardstock, but I don't think it needs as much work as you think.

but you have to remeber that a lot of the star wars ships suffer from a horrible senese of perportion on the part of the designers in the movie studios and on scene . if you look at the interior shots of the millenium falcon , and compare those to the shots of the outside , there is no way for them to have that much space inside AND have room for cargo , and equiptment like those pesky engines they rely on to go places . i would leave it as is , or if you REALLY wanted to make it spiffy , build a detailed cockpit for miniatures to sit in .

Proportions... just a question, how many times did you look at a car and say... there is no way there is that much space in it. then sit in it and you are like... wow, so much space inside it. from the exterior it seemed way smaller. i'm just gonna say it that way. thats why i stopped looking at things and say the proportions are off. cause seriously, proportions are always off if you go by camera angles. even when the damn thing is 100% proportionnal.
the proportions compared to the mini aside it seems fine by me.

I'm not bothered much by proportions. The only real sticking point for this model for me is the cockpit, which is large so you can fit the action figure in it. Those Shadow Of The Empire action figures were huge compared with the older ones. As to size of the ship vs interior size, I always take into account that practical models don't match sets. The hanger Millennium Falcon is actually a 60% scaled down version of what the "actual" ship is supposed to be. This is an old Hollywood practice that you just have to deal with as a gamer. If I ever want a detailed interior I'll build a 2.5D set.

i played a game one day that had a replica of the movie millenium falcon... i was blown away... the millenium falcon is much smaller then one might think it is. and to be honest when you compare an x-wing aside it you notice how that the x-wing is probably only 1/3rd the size. the replica made for that game was super proportionnal from inside and out. it was a true 3D models. and seriously... that thing was awefully small. and you had everything, you could inside the turrets. one at the top one at the bottom. you had the place where the crew goes to play that game. you had the cockpit. you even had the whole int he middle where solo got the toolbox on his head. everything was there. you could even lift the panels and hide in there... for something that small, there were tons of stuff to see.
when you think about it though... its logical to be that small... its not a cruiser, its not a fighter, its an hybrid in between and for it to beat out stuff in speed. it requires to be that small. i'd say its probably the smallest a ship can be for interstellar travel.
but with all that said... i understand your point where the action figure takes the whole place up. thats ridiculous. and yeah the 2.5d replica would be much more practical !

This is not an update. I got a new camera last night and was looking for something to take pictures of. Unfortunately I haven't finished anything lately. So what could I shoot?. Then I remembered I hadn't taken any photos of all the miniatures from the Imperial Assault box all together in one shot yet. So here it is.

I finally got away from the sculpting tools long enough to do some painting. I got Jaxxon painted and on a base. Here he is... I have another shot with an Imperial Assault Stormtrooper. I'd better post this before my computer gives me anymore grief. Enjoy

What. The Hell. Is THAT!? That is Jaxxon the Lepi. He's a character from the seventh issue of the 1970's Marvel comic Star Wars series. It's first story written for the comic book after the six issue comic adaptation of the movie. It's a Han Solo story based heavily on the Magnificent Seven. This was well before anyone knew what an epic Star Wars was going to be. DnDPaladin, you're right. I'd never noticed how much Jaxxon looked like Bucky O'Hare till now. curufin, there's some great stuff in those old Star Wars comics. Actually most of the Star Wars comics have loads of inspiration in them. The Dark Horse X-Wing series fueled at least two campaigns for me.

I finally received my mass of Star Wars Command figs I ordered several months ago (via a slow boat to Asia) and boy are they awesome! Tons of goodies and so many fig that I had to sell many of the figs off over here.

I did end up getting some of those Star Wars Command sets as well. They were heavily discounted a month or two back and I just had to have them. Not sure what I'll do with the figures, but something will occur to me.

Update time. Wow, it's been over two months since I posted the Jaxxon sculpt. Well for some reason I've been in the mood to paint Star Wars again this week. First off, I'll show off my Heavy Stormtroopers. These are the troopers that come in the Twin Shadows expansion set for Imperial Assault. I really like these guys. They look nice next to the regular troopers and give them a bit of variety. I should probably go back and add some detail to the backpacks though. I know there's some lighter grey parts that I'm missing. Next up, Kayn Somos, Stormtrooper commander. He's a villain pack addition to Imperial Assault. I should have made the pauldron white but I just couldn't resist going with the distinctive orange. Sometimes you have to go with what feels right. And finally, we have C-3P0. Man, I'm gonna have to go back and fix those eyes. I swear they didn't look that bad at a distance. I'll be continuing to paint up more Star Wars goodies in the near future. Something tells me this mood is going to be here for a while. Let me know what you think.

Beautifully done, looking forward to seeing what you do next.
I imagine we'll see a lot more people to busting out their Star Wars miniatures, in the near future.
