Hey gang! I stumbled across DM Scotty's videos the other morning while ingesting some delicious cereal and thought it would be cool to get into but have other projects I had to complete first (house hold stuff). Luckily, we had a rainy Saturday in SE Michigan and I was able to get most of the items knocked out. Then I put a "No starting until the garage is clean" stipulation but with all the rain that we had there I couldn't mow the lawn so cleaned the garage. BAM! All my projects done, approval from the Mrs, and I managed to get a few boxes that are in good shape from cleaning up the garage (score!). I am curious as to what I would actually need in order to start doing the 2.5 Next system (seems the best option since I DM at a store). What I already have
- Boxes
- Box cutter
- Hot glue gun
- Scissors
- Some old paint brushes as well as nice Purdy brushes - how many do I need?
- Some really nice mini paint brushes
- Play sand
- Model/Mini paint
What do I need? - Craft paints - what colors? any particular brands work better?
- Cork! - thinking I will start off with 8 12" 12" pieces if I can find that size
- White Glue - how many bottles?
- Construction Sand (or whatever it is called)
- Storage device - what works well?
- Foam Board
I am looking forward to starting this and hope that I can knock out some stuff before the final encounter of Rise of Tiamat before we reach it (probably 2 months still). Also, I plan on eventually doing some of the normal 2.5D stuff as well eventually so if there is something useful I should try to snag let me know.

according to the rules of the catholic church, if you thought it, you done it! welcome aboard how many brushes you need depends on how well you take care of them. even cheap brushes can last a long time if you clean and dry them after each use. avoid getting paint in the part where the bristles are attached to the brush. for craft paints go cheap. white glue, go cheap and go big. unless you have a place for it close to you. i don't know there is much difference in quality, and when working with cardboard and such any kind seems to be as good as any other. i find i go trough about a 100ml bottle a month when i craft a lot. for sand i 'harvested' some sand from a construction site, washed and strained it. for storage i am using simple plastic boxes with lids, the cheapest i could find making sure they stack well. other stuff you might want: -rocks (either 'harvest' them from the wild or find the cheapest decorative stones for potted plants) -popsickle sticks -gold glitter, round 1mm (looks like gold pieces to scale with the minis.) -nail art rhinestones, gem style (to combine with the glitter as gems in a treasure pile) -look at the pasta shelves at the supermarket to see if any of the shapes inspire you. it is cheap and easy to work with.

Greetings welcome to the fun!
For sand I just grab some of the play sand I use for my snake that I get from Toys R Us. Craft paints, Walmart has a nice selection of them that are not too expensive. As far as glitter, I've had to order the round kind online as I could never find it even in Michaels in my area. For gemstones, I just picked up a bunch of different kinds of beads.

What you need is to post some pics! Kev! ..From your cleaned Garage. I've never seen a clean Garage. ;-) Sorry, cant resist.... I guess if you have "play sand" you didnt need construction sand. I guess the difference is the grain. Maybe a jar with some small pebbles (Gather outdoor at some beach). They add some nice look to a sanded base.

Cheap walmart paint works for me, and I try to go with the tri-color scheme (main color, then 1 darker and 1 lighter) 1 big bottle of black is a must

Naw, DMG just likes his PVA glue! That is what I was thinking as well. But figured I would mention it JUST IN CASE he didn't mean for it to be there. As for being a Michigander, yup! Born, raised and still reside in SE Michigan (Ann Arbor/Ypsi area)

Update, I have been busy with home life but was able to get one side of my "Next" tiles done but may redo them since I think I can do better. I have also cut out and glued the cardboard for my walls. I did a 12 1" 2, 3", 4" & 12" and then 26" 6". I am planning on cutting out the foam and getting that step accomplished some time this week.

Welcome aboard.
You have a few options for sand. Might also be worth picking up one of the small bags of play sand. Regular play sand is all fine (like pop corn salt). Pool filter sand is a bit more coarse (think kosher salt & table salt mixed together). Construction sand is a bit more like rock salt with the other two types of sand mixed in.... It depends on the look you are going for. And thing is for the price getting a bag of each is not going to break the bank. You should be able to pick up a bag of each (get all three kinds total) for under $15.
If it wasn't for two factors (environmental laws and contaminants) you could hoark a bucket of sand from a stream bed and boil it.
