I've seen some talk about trees lately and I thought I would (hopefully) help and bring something to the conversation. I went image searching for some interesting trees and thought I would share what I found. This forum is filled with crafters that do nothing short of amazing work, so I thought I might add some creative spark. Hopefully, this helps someone as a reference. First tree: The Larch Ok, that was my Monty Python joke. I got it out of my system...almost. First tree: The Banyan Tree This last shot is in Lahaina, Maui, at the center square. I've been there quite a few times (even had my picture taken with my son in the hollow of this tree). This is one massive tree that grows roots that spring up and creates support beams for its long branches. Very cool tree to wander around.

The Manzanita We have these all over the place since we are in a rather dry climate (although I live about an hour east of San Francisco, it's like a dry Mediterranean region, which is why so many Italians moved here. My wife is part Italian and Joe DiMaggio grew up here and they are related by blood, which is cool to me since I am a baseball nerd...but I digress). Manzanita is a cool tree, rather low to the ground with this really cool blood red bark. It's in terrain called chaparral, which is just about impassable, even for druids, and rather loaded with ticks. This last shot is taken at a park nearby called Tilden Park, it sits in the Berkeley hills, overlooking Berkeley and the campus. The hills themselves run north south, and these trees are on the east facing side (my side), which is quite dry. Cool park, though.

Finally The Oak Tree: I know many have seen oaks, so I was looking for the cool and unusual. This last shot is at Tilden Park again. These trails look real cool when it is raining or it's winter and there is a lot of fog around. I hope someone can make use of these shots, get some inspiration of these. If I have come to know this group, it won't take much for your imagination to start kicking in.

Great references. I really like the look of the Banyan Tree. It'd be a good choice for an alien landscape, or a lost tropical island.

If you've never seen a banyan tree, there is no way to describe standing in the midst of one. It's an odd thing to be surrounded by wood and tree limbs all from the same tree, but it's taking up a whole city block.

Now imagine that as a Treant.
You're welcome.

My humble Submission The Deku Tree Growing only in the most remote part of Hyrule the great deku can grow between 50-150ft tall with a diameter of roughly 65ft many creatures and insects call this tree home thanks to its almost completely hollow core which allows for great adventures for those chosen few who can enter. Also on rare occasions the face like growth can sometimes produce large bubbles from the mouth, as air escapes from its core and gathers up in the sap slowly releasing due to the saps strange elasticity, giving it the allusion of breathing. This is a truly awesome tree and i thought y'all might like to add it to your games
