Very helpful. Thank you! I especially liked the idea of using wedding cake pillars. Never would have thought of that! And also, putting 4 of them together to create a larger base... that's brilliant! Makes for a much more visually interesting piece than something that's just a single "solid" piece. How about spacing the 4 apart and adding a flat stone slab on top, that's maybe a half inch thick, or possibly even thicker (depending on the size of the statue and how far apart you've spaced the 4 squat pillars). Then add the actual statue piece on top of that. The stone slab could either be large enough to completely cover and line up with all the corners of the tops of the pillars, or you could make it slightly smaller, to give it a "stair-stepping" effect. The pillars could also be cut so that they're just tall enough for a character to walk under. Has anyone found these wedding cake pillars at a reasonable price? I saw them in Michaels the other day, but passed on them because they were a bit pricey. I haven't had a chance to check Hobby Lobby, or anywhere else yet... spacinthem out as you suggest is something i plan to do for one of the finished projects for a shrine , so stay tuned for that one . as for the price , if you go to hobby lobby , and take your friends and any kids you can grab , print out their 40%off coupon and give one to each person so you can buy multiples in one visit

THNX
part 2 will JUST be about the pliniths to put them on , and should be pretty short but its probably going to be a 4 or 5 part series just because i have sooo many "statues" to make from them .

you could just fill in the mouth and draw them in like i do on the beholders . put a plug into so that the lips still stand out , paint it black and draw them on .

no , it looks fine , but for future projects , if you are worried about it , you can just use a woodsy ball from the craft store . i was talking about painting the final effect like i have for my beholders .

Thanks. Good idea about the glass eyes. But I don't have a suitable glass marble for an eye, let alone any glass marbles. I'll just smooth and round it the best I can and paint it and varnish to a high gloss. I still haven't figured out how I am going to do the teeth. Never sculpted teeth on a model only used toothpicks in the past. i wish you were doing these a couple months from now , once i have the last couple items to do my " 10 minute beholder" video , i could show you a simple trick to do the eye and teeth .

Just as a suggestion for further videos using resin casts like that, get a cheap wash and brush it over what you're showing off. I assume that it's partially an advert with this, and that defines the features more easily for someone trying to decide if they want them or not. ya , these are pretty "busy" , and admittedly its hard to see all the detail . this was just a quick show off bit for the tokens for a FB group i sponsor contests in from time to time . i am TRYING to get caught up with projects , and my plan is to have painted examples of all the bits and such in the photos in the etsy shop . for the tokens , i originally had JUST the 9 smaller ones as a set a while back , THOSE i have painted examples of in my etsy shop . but i JUST finished with the casting a couple days ago for the three larger ones so i wont have time to paint them for a while but still wanted to show them off so i can start the contest on Friday .

Nice video! Just one thing there is a very noticable background hiss ( atleast with head phones ), you can use a program like audacity ( www.audacityteam.org/ ) to easily remove it ( Effect > Noise removal ) just select a couple of seconds where you are silent and use that to generate the noise profile. thanks , i will have to look into that !

if you do resin pours using resins that use equal parts a and b , i found a nifty trick for fast consistent pouring ...............

OH the IRONY ........... so i have been using a craptacular camera/video recorder . i only started recently trying the video on it because previously i had always just done photo blogs using the camera option . i've had it for probably 10 years . even though i NEED a new video camera so i can get going on the youtube channel tutorials i want to make , i cant afford one yet because of massive car repairs i need to get my car going again . i found a bundle at walmart for about $250 , but its $250 i dont have . so i was shooting some video for a posting . since i dont have fancy editing software i make short vids and splice them together on the youtube editor . got the first few segments done and the camera died ........ it will be the next electronicy item i pull apart to look for any bits i can use ......... but for the time being i am cameraless

Hey grandinquisitorkris, Since you were talking about scrap building some Ork vehicles, you might want to consider making one of these. www.irondogstudios.com/images/tater/mek_tater.htmlI've bought a Mr. Potatohead, to use for one of these for a diorama for my Necrons. i have access to one of the OLD epicast stompa gargants that i plan to use as the basis for a home made version . not a fan of the "gorka/morka naughts" MODELS so mine will be "counts as" when we play "renegade " . iplan to use several of the resin gears and cogs on them , so its good i have the molds so i can make the bajillion i will need

for the sprokets andcogs ......not yet , play Shadows of Brimstone , but i didnt have them cast when i painted and based my targa guardians . now im saving them up while i'm in a holding pattern waiting to get a better video camera . i am transitioning from doing blog tutorials to trying to do video tutorials , so i have projects stacked up waiting for me to get the camera before i get them all going again .
i plan to use a large chunk on terrain as scrap piles or just debris , but will also use some for models . i dont know how familiar some of you guys are with the warhammer 40k games but i plan to scrap build some ork gargants and will use some of these to ad to the orky look .
also plan to do some necromunda terrain and will use some for that ........
i just have TOOOOOOOO many projects to do that these will add a nice extra detail to
for the rest of the bits , i gave my old stuff away over the years when i did spring cleaning for games i no longer played . but itgives me a chance to show all the other brackets and stuff being used when i do my tutorials .

yea , its actually surprising how different the little plastic brackets and stuff look when painted up or chopped up and used as filler for rubble/scrap piles .
