or alternatively you could just draw them and color them on shrinky dinks , much easier to cut , and you can get them in the shape of the golum , without the glass pane included . this also lets you do them in different sizes and use standard bases .
also lets you end up with the glass they stepped out of ..................

My best regards La Factoria those look really nice ! BUT they also look really thick , have you though of using something thinner instead of the corrugated cardboard for the center ? perhaps some artist illustration board instead ?

a little update ....... the wire is high tensile wire that is hard to bend , so it should maintain its shape fairly well . the jaw , especially , was just to labor intensive to do these in THIS style for my ETSY shop , so for the shop version it will be a sculpted jaw like the 2 in the back row . this style will be a VERY limited edition simply because of how much time and effort they take to sculpt . i am still working on the painting details , but i am pretty happy with it so far .

interesting idea , but that would require a rewrite of the stats and a major upgrade in challenge rating . for anyone interested , i am doing this as a test piece to see how it looks and how hard it is to make to put some death tyrants in my ETSY shop . at this point its too labor intensive in this form to duplicate so THIS one will be given away as a contest prize . anyone wanting a chance to win it should like and follow my face book "artist page" www.facebook.com/stuffeyemake/

but as far as i know the orbs arent really independent things , they just float around in place of the eye stalks . True, but having the ability to position them with each use could be interesting when determining effects. how so ? i dont understand your reasoning since beholders have 360 degree sight and with the exception of the central eye can fire all the others in any direction desired each turn .

ya , the artist who made the new death tyrant sketch did it as a floating skull with no eye stalks , just 10 red sparkling orbs floating around it . Might work to use the sparkling orbs as independently based things. but as far as i know the orbs arent really independent things , they just float around in place of the eye stalks .

Do they need to actually float around? if they only need to LOOK like they are floating, you might try the clear Elmers glue. I have used that very effectively for clear potions with suspended material. ya , the artist who made the new death tyrant sketch did it as a floating skull with no eye stalks , just 10 red sparkling orbs floating around it .

That is super creepy. Great job! Maybe some thin wire for the floating orbs? If you can paint it a shadowy grey, you might be able to make it look like they're floating? thats what i was figuring on trying to do first , i just have to wait til the weekend to go to the model shop to get some thin high tensile wire so it keeps its shape once i bend it . i want to try and bend it in arcs , coming out of the stalk holes and orbiting in curves around the skull as if their in motion swirling around the head . because its taking so much time , i doubt it will be worth selling in my ETSY shop because the cost will be to high for this first test piece , so i will probably give it away as a "follow/likes" contest for my FB "artist" page .

Very nice. Are you planning to insert teeth into the sockets on the jaw? ya , i had to wait for the lower jaw to cure so i could work on adding the teeth and then add texture to the lower jaw to match . the REAL challenge will be adding in the floating orbs

ya , this wont really work for that unless you want to do A LOT of gluing sheets of card stock together . if your too hard up for cash to buy bases , you could just cut some out of plastic lids and such , otherwise you are pretty much better off either buying bases , or buying wooden circles from the woodsie section of hobby lobby .

this is the first batch of beholders for my ETSY shop , and its been a hard SLOG getting them done . between weather issues screwing with ME , and/or delaying the resin pours and sealing ....................... i think i started these about 5 weeks ago ? i am especially happy with how the base toppers came out , i think they accent them nicely and will let me produce more as needed to keep the shop stocked !

in regards to the washers , in this case i didn't want them to be weighted down . because i dont know what type of terrain they will be used on , i wanted them to be as light as possible so they dont damage any particularly delicate terrain pieces they get played on .
as for molding the entire base , doing it this way allows me to use these on varying sized bases . in addition to the 2 inch bases i also got some 3 inch bases . if i need a thicker base or different sizes for a particular figure , these 10 toppers will work for all of them .
as for the cost , i got the laser cut bases from EVERYLITTLEWAR.com , they were cheap , i think i got 275 bases (between 3 sizes ) ? for $40 , which is about $.15 each , and my resin toppers are less than $1 each even WITH the mold costs . so with a price point of $25+ per standard or specialty beholder , the cost is negligible

Hello everybody. I've been hit by the Photobucket ransom thing. All my photos have been covered up, and the only way I can get them back is to pay $399 a year for an upgrade to my account. I am not doing that. So instead I'll be trying out a different way of hosting images. I've singed up for a Flickr account. (Thank you Curufin) Next up, trying to figure out how to post from Flickr. I've successfully loaded photos to the account. Now I just need to figure out what the right image file link is. Here's a shot of a painted TIE Fighter. Well, that didn't work. I'll continue to hammer at this till I figure it out. Any help would be appreciated. i use DAKKADAKKA for hosting mine , they are a game forum , so they LIKE having people posting pics there and sharing the links . AND since its a game forum , just posting there will get you more GAMERS looking at them
