carjackedseraphim.blogspot.com/2013/11/phb-cover-idol-wip.html I'm working on a scale representation of the demon idol on the cover of the original PHB. Here is a WIP pic. More to come. I'm thinking that the arms and the bowl may be a separate piece AND the head may be a separate piece. All to make it easier to pack up AND to assist with wiring the LEDs.

I make lots of stuff, but my foray into 2.5d tiles is going to be modular caverns. I'm going to design them to interface with my Dwarven Forge Tiles. We'll see how that goes!

I don't know if this will help, but when I want to design something, and I'm not sure what I want, I like to just sketch out a bunch of a alternatives. Visual brainstorming maybe. Here's a pic that I made. You can download it, print it out and make a bunch of copies. Go wild with your ideas! Here's a sketch that I made, building upon the pictures -- I'd build up the front so that the dragon could just sit on it. I'd also make a few extra decks in the back. Just my rough ideas...

Can you take a picture of it on a white/blank background? Directly from above and from the side would be great. I have a plan to help you out. Just post the pictures here...

I've always made things. I think that drove my parents nuts. I used to cut up cardboard boxes and build structures for my action figures. I'd use up all my father's electrical tape in the process. (He was an electrician by trade.) I remember making spaceships for my action figures out of old bottles. The list goes on and on. The first big "gaming related" crafting project I made was a 3D terrain board for CopperCon many, many moons ago. I still have it. Maybe I'll do a post...

After doing the Torog tiles, I did another large tile (measuring approx. 2 x 2 of the torog dungeon tiles). We have a plastic thingy* for the kitchen sink that I have wanted to use as a 'clay stamp' for months. * What's this thing called in english? I figured this would make a great paved tile with a round structure in the middle that can be used as arcane / summining circle or just a nice-looking piece of pavement. I put the clay between to layers of clingfoil (= angry wife prevention) and rolled it out until it was thin enough, although I fear I have rolled it a bit too thin... I'll probably have to glue it to a stron carboard base to prevent it from breaking. I will leave this until it is almost dry and then try to engrave some runes in it. the additional irregular texture on the 'pavement' is from the clingfoil, but I like that effect - looks like ageing cracks. Update: After ~ 2hrs, I gave it a try and see how well I can engrave some runes. Turns out that waiting wasn't a good idea - the clay gets rubbery as it dries and it is almost impossible to engrave fine structures like runes / glyphs into it. Lesson learned here: engrave fine details while the clay is fresh and malleable! I still managed to impress some stuff into the ring; since this will be an ancient abolethic summoning circle that was dumped (i.e. teleported away to a random underdark cave) after a ritual gone awry, the glyphs are not supposed to look fresh and readily decipherable anyways. It will give my players a nice translation riddle to keep them busy, plus some foreshadowing for the main plot. (In case anybody is curious: We're playing the Night Below campaign.)
Consider this idea STOLEN!! As soon as I find one of these strainers at the dollar store... AWESOME!!

But....sigh now I need to make another one. To be honest i think I like it better as the chromish version. Then Again I made mine to be a Blood Worm as opposed to old purple. I also find myself worried about the clay, I have never done any real sculpting.I felt the same when I started working with clay again (I did some minor sculpting 1 yrs back). My advice: Simply don't worry and start playing around with this new material. After all, what can go wrong? This isn't dangerous stuff - you're not tinkering with electricity or gunpowder. Seriously, the worst that could happen is that you get your clothes dirty, and clay is easy to wash out. Second worst case: You don't like your end result. So what? Simply clump it all together and start again! I cannot agree more. GO FOR IT! I was nervous when I started the Green Devil Face, but it turned out well. If you use real clay, I might suggest keeping a little bowl of water nearby. Dabbing your fingers in the water helps smooth out the clay and sometimes it gets a little sticky. YMMV.

Incredible work. Thanks for sharing. I love these "whole dungeon" and "actual play" pics. Can you tell me about the cards you have? Are they spell references? What edition are they for?

Nicely done. I like the idea of the linked portals and the gemstones used to activate them. I'd use Sculpey to build an anvil and such. I wouldn't kill players that go to a collapsed portal.

So, not entirely happy with the Model Magic face, I made this one out of terracotta clay. I mounted it on thin cardboard again and I textured the wall and base with flexible modeling paste. It's a lot heavier than my Model Magic face, so I made a foot on the back to keep it steady. Here it is painted. I think it turned out very well. It has a lot of character.
