Dear crafting community, I need help...
I got a giant dragon head a few weeks back for a pittance on ebay (about 3 €). The whole thing is a bit over 20 cm long and made of resin:
I plan to use it as the base of a magical vehicle allowing the party to travel from the shores of a vast sea in the Underdark to various submerged locations. The party is at level 12 (we're using ADND 2nd edition rules) and the party is quite powerful for their level (which is good because I confront them with equally powerful enemies). They already have a portable extradimensional hideout where they can savely rest, but this doesn't help them with travelling over and under water (though it is a huge help in terms of storaging equipment & loot).
Where I need your help is, simply put, the following: How to turn this beauty into an equally beautiful magical vehicle?
It's origin is totally flexible, i.e. it could be an artifact from an ancient high-magic culture (we're playing in the Forgotten Realms, so there are several options). It could be an Githyanki planar ship stripped off several abilities (planejumping etc.) or coming from some other plane of th Great Wheel. In other words: total design freedom.
1) To start with, I fail to come up with good design ideas. Huge as this ting is, it's to small for the complete party (7 PCs plus place for some future henchmen) to stand on it. The voyages could be for several days, so they would need enough space to be 'on board' of the vehicle. ...on he other side, just as I write this... Of course they can have the majority of them waiting in the extradimensional hideout and only two or three of them stading on the dragon's head.
...why haven't I got that idea before? Oh boy... *feels dumb*
I could glue or otherwise attach the head to a (ship-shaped?) carboard base, but I simply don't have an idea how that should look.
2) Second, being in the underdark means that the thing as to be variabel in size because it is simply be too large to fit into most of the Underdark's tunnels.
3) Third, as I want to enabel them to travel with it underwater, the easiest solution is that the head can project a forcefield around it.
The latter two aspects are not crafting problems; I just have to define two 'passwords' for shrinking & growing to original size, but maybe we can use that aspect as inspiration for something cool to craft...That's not a craft problem; I just have to define two 'passwords' for shrinking & growing to original size, but maybe we can use that aspect as inspiration for something cool to craft...
I figured that I could eithe brood over this for another few weeks or months, or I can present you all with this challenge and hope for some great input.
