Another, idea: add smaller versions of the ginormous red's, around the base. I would only use a few -- no more than 6, to jazz it up just a bit. You could use smaller shrooms with different colors, as well. Cheers!

Just went crazy and bought the following three Dungeons & Dragons Board Games -- for the minis; (I already own Castle Ravenloft).
1) Legend of Drizzt 2) Wrath of Ashardalon 3) Temple of Elemental Evil
Now I have like 170 D&D minis to paint lol.

Congratulations, I'm sure you'll get them pretty. Some of them paint up real nice - I'm done with my Ravenloft and Ashardalon miniatures and most of the ones from Dizzt... Still got to complete those and do all of the Elemental Evil ones... plus my improved elementals project LOL :-)

The board game rules are imho quite good. The give a nice reasonably fast paced dungeon crawl type experience that works for everywhere from one to five players. The "AI" system for the monsters is simple and usually leave little doubt about what to do. The first three are mostly suited for one-off games (but they do have a storyline) while ToEE is much more setup for campaign style play.
As I mentioned in my elemental crafting thread, we play them as family games. It's really neat to be able to just throw a little adventure/dungeon crawl on the table and then finish it of with the kids defeating a red dragon :-) One of the scenarios in Wrath of Ashardalon is basicly the search for a big chamber, where you fight a random boss - including Ashardalon himself!
When I run the games as DM'ed I sometimes just decide what outcome I want for those big random draws... Makes setting the mood a bit easier, when I can say the are searching for the dragons lair specifically :-)

Okay finally got a paint job I am happy with. Just applied Army Painter Strong Tone wash all over what I last did and it toned down that cocoa. After that dried I gave a VERY LIGHT dusting at the highest points of my highlight color: 50/50 Americana Cocoa + Americana Snow White. Happy enough with it now. You inspired me.

I now have all four Dungeons & Dragons board games. I can say that I like the monsters and their detail best in the Castle Ravenloft, then Wrath of Ashardalon. Not so impressed with the minis in Drizzt & Temple , especially Temple.
The level of detail of the minis in Drizzt and Temple, especially Temple doesn't seem to compare to the earlier games. I need to get them under the magnifying light to verify this.. maybe it is my eyes today.
I do like the demon in Drizzt box though.
There was a scratch on the Temple box .. huge one in fact.. so I have a valid reason for returning it.. so tempted to return it.
EDIT: seems like you get a lot bigger minis in both Castle Ravenloft and Ashardalon. Seems they skimp on the plastic on Drizzt & Temple. Do others feel the same? Less detail in the latest two games?

I am going to keep all of them. Actually Drizzt is pretty good now that I look at what you get. I like TOEE the least because of all the boring cultists and small elementals but it is still worth it. At least there are some cool gnolls and bugbears. Here they are, 166 minis from all four D&D board games, of which only 13 are painted so far (from the Castle Ravenloft set). So 153 more minis to paint. $200 worth. For some reason, in TOEE, they made the earth and water elementals much smaller than the air and fire elementals. I see why they were crafted here recently

DnDPaladin , I priced the D&D Command sets: they vary in 'per miniature' pricing from around $2/figure, to $4/figure. If these are all pre-painted, then they are a pretty good deal! If you want to build armies of figures, I think this is an excellent way to do so. Reaper's Bones figures are more expensive than these, and they need to be painted! The Mage Knight figures were a fantastic deal a few years ago, but they have mostly been bought up. I rarely see them on e-Bay anymore, at least not at low prices... Thanks for sharing the idea with us. This is an excellent way to stretch the gaming dollar, and build up some small armies in the process! Cheers!

I see why they were crafted here recently If you plan on playing the games as well, you really want some opaque card sleeves (Different ones for the Monsters, items, and other things...with some transparent ones for the character abilities since you can mix and match them between characters of the same class and/or race)...and grab a small supply of the dead cheap common magic/pokemon/yugioh cards. Board Game Geek has pics of the promo monster cards for the sets, and if you use the opaque back card sleeves, you can just print the card pic out and stick it in one along with one of the 1-5 cent cards of the type you wanted to use. There are also a few interesting fan made characters that expand things even more.

jennifer , can you share a quick overview what colors you used on your stalagmite centerpiece, and in which order? Based with a blackish brown: espresso. Bought a gallon of it at Home Depot a while back. Then Americana Burnt Umber. Then Americana Cocoa. Then 50/50 Americana Cocoa & Americana Snow White. I overdid the Cocoa so I had to wash with Army Painter Soft Tone.. but normally dont' have to do that. EDIT: I imagine an alternative to espresso is just plain black.
