just found out on TV that this is a thing. which i definitely need to see if i ever go to hamburg. Its called Miniature Wonderland and the money they do from visiting the place is used in making the thing even bigger. and it is said its already thousands and thousands of metters big. they even say the total square of the place is like a kilometer or something. the next video is just one part of it and thats the airport. but they also have the biggest train system ever made.
but what sold it all for me, is that the whole thing works for real. including airplanes flying away !

I have been there two years ago and it is absolutely incredible. If you ever are in Hamburg it is definitely worth a visit. The airport with the planes is especially awesome. They also hide a lot of funny details in their builds. It's quite entertaining to look for that sort of stuff, while admiring everything else. The whole wonderland is really big, I've spent several hours in there, it's really a whole new level of miniature building. I have to dig up some of the pictures I took. I can post some of them here if someone is interested.

That looks stunning...And is another good reason to visit Germany...I suppose a big question is...HOW LONG DID IT TAKE THEM TO BUILD!!!

we have a similar place in holland called 'madurodam'. it's built to be a symbolic diorama of holland itself. don't think they have any animatronics though.

Now you mention it, there is something like that in Switzerland too. It is called Swiss Miniature and is also a tiny representation of a lot of places in Switzerland. The miniature Wonderland in Hamburg is a lot bigger though and shows places from all around the world.

Wow! Amazing details. I was hypnotized when the planes landed and took off. The first one that aborted the landing...been there, not funny, lots of screaming:-) And how great was that planefire. Some awesome effects with the lighting.
Stumbled over this afterwards
Just need the steampunk-theme...

I saw a documentary on the Hamburg display and it's something I want to go see if I am ever able! The documentary talked a lot about what the did building it, including the system that handles the vehicle movement. The have a bunch of recharge stations set up so that the moving cars and trucks can go recharge themselves!
