Probably the simples fly stand possible: A piece of wire, a neodym magnet (1 cm diameter, 2 mm high) and some hotglue. Works well for stuff that isn't very heavy. The finished CSAFGM* is too heavy - it tends to topple over even with the large neodym. *CSAFGM: cone-shaped ancient, floating, glowing monolith Topside: Plus: Another slime. This time in green. Maybe I'll go over it with and do a little green drybrushing.

I've found another great aspect of moulds in the last few days: Moulding optimizes efficiency. Whenever I have something to hotglue, after all is glued and done, the gluegun is still hot and takes approx. 5 minutes to cool down. This is wasting energy, and I always strongly disliked that. Now I take some of my moulds and put the residual to good use. That's what I can do in one run: I could have made complete castings, but I'll need many small bits for a future project. The downside is that my hotglue consumption goes through the roof, but as long as I only mold what I use, that's no problem.

Very cool. I am definitely going to need to get going on this silicone/cornstarch mold thing... I am missing out on so many possibilities...

The theme of the March Craftwar is Machine, which gives me some extra motivation of concentrating on the mechanical parts of my Dwarven Mine project. Talk about killing two goblins with one axe blow! Here's the molded bits I did yesterday. Finishing this small stuff is superfast, I could do it in a few minutes for each step between coming home from work, playing with my son and preparing dinner. As soon as he's old enough to do a good paint job, my output will double and triple - child labout is such a great invetion! *ducks for cover* (Just to avoid a shitstorm: No, this wasn't meant seriously.)primed: Blackwashed: Rusted: One piece I primed in gunmetal (i.e. black with silver particles), then partially covered with copper and washed with verdigris. Wet Dry You can see pores in the structure, making it look like cast iron. The stone pieces On the cobblestones I can glue little props like broken gears and use them as scatter terrain. Or use them as originally thought as base for monsters; urban monsters like giant rats or rat swarms, or low-level dungeon monsters like spiders... No clue what I'll do with the basalt pillars, they just look nice. They'll probably go into the lava/volcanic terrain set (another longterm project). The lid of an asian food container (properly cleaned). I like the structure and will probably use it somwhere in the dwarven mine...

That lid looks like a square hole, complete with diminishing perspective. Could work, with the proper painting. Nice stuff. Cheers!

Yes it looks like illusionary hole, but I don't think it would work as such very well. My gut feeling is that the lines are too straight and regular. If I made the surroundings in th same style, maybe.
I might give it a try (deep holes are always interesting features in a battle), but I think I'll just use it as dwarfen architecture. Let's see...

I have an old floppy disc holder that I wanted to upcycle for what feels like ages. The stupid thing is: I can't for the life of me find an idea what the heck to do with it! - rotated it looks like a stair, but the steps are too narrow for minis to stand on - magnetize & decorate it --> memo holder for the freezer (would take lots of neodyms though) - ...? So I need your help: What would you do with it? Ideas are not limited to terrain, monsters and roleplaying props - any idea is welcome!

Just wanted to point out that Mel the Terrain Tutor has some very neat ideas for cheap grass. I recommend this guy - he's on my handful of terrain-building channels that I check regularly, apart from Scotty and DMG.

Just tossing some ideas out there for your floppy holder:
-Inside workings of a dice tower -card holder for DM stuff (character cards, etc) -some sort of ancient dwarven lift. -puzzle with a picture on it that is only able to be seen when it is all down, or all up -sideways it could be a stair trap that slides in once the characters try to navigate them -sideways it could serve as a massive multi layered door like a blast door -with it standing up it could have a trap underneath it that makes the whole thing fall on top of the party
Just some random thoughts

You know you're a crafter when... ... you go to the home improvement store to buy sand for the kid's sandbox - and return with colors for crafting (plus the sand of course). Go look in your hardware store in the wall paint shelfes: They have small testers with lots of beautiful shades! 50 ml for 1.79€ and 75 ml for 2.49€ mixing color for 3.99€ (the concentrated stuff you usually mix with white) I limited myself to a handful of shades. 10.35€ for 5 pots: For comparison: miniature paint pots like the one in the pic below are 12 ml and cost about twice as much. But maybe that comparison is unfair - the mini paint might be of much better quality. I'll test that soon and share the results.

that floppy holder could serve as an initiative tracking system with cards.

got a lucky score in the company: We buy parts that come with brass nuts and toothed locked washers...which we don't need, collect in a big box and throw away. So I could fill up a ziploc bag full of these lovely golden shinies!

Started to play around with the dried fruits I got recently... I started with balls spheric shapes. These will make wonderfully weird vegetation for the Feydark (the underdark of the feyland in DnD cosmology). Rattanfruits, Rumbia and Plantane: The small Rattanfruits are even ratteling - how cool will that be on the table? I couldn't resist and had to open one. It contained some sort of nut, and the broken shell will of course be incorporated into scatter terrain. The rattanfruits and the large rumbia fruits could be painted up as dragon eggs. Imagine your player's faces when they enter a room/cave/demiplane with dozens of these things! [update] Wire + hotglue = stems.

Some poker chips, three washers each and lots of hotglue:
Found some cat's toys (1€ for all 4) in the T€DI store (one of Germany's equivalents to dollarstores). They will make great half-spherical metal ...thingies.

I always loved self-supporting '3D effects' like these ghosts below... ...but never found a way of replicating it, or loving it enough to really think about how to achieve that. Then, about 15 min ago, it finally made 'click!': Crumple up some newspaper Cover it with baking parchment. Start punmping out the hotglue. Let it cool and start texturizing. Doesn't look like what I wanted to achieve, but it's definitely something I never did before, and definitely looking interesting. I have to wait until it's really cooled down and hardened up before peeling it away. Then I'll start thinking about what this can be turned into. - spiderweb, - electric discharge, - magic flowing out of some powerful source, - ghosts (glue some heads on the ends) ... what else?
