This is where I'll be posting my hastily made miniatures. I'll try to make it as tutorial-ish as possible, but I forget to take pics between stages, so... It's not anything anyone here couldn't figure out (hah, pun) by them selves anyways.
First up a roper i need for tomorrows game. Threw him together with Fimo clay.
First I made his innards with aluminium foil. Rolled out some clay and wrapped it around. Pushed a nail/tack-thing in as an eye and sculpted some lids. Threw on a blob of clay to shape a mouth and attached a tongue. Then I stuck some tentacles in. I realize I should/could have attached more, but hey..
After the first round of baking I glued the wires in the holes and added clay. Put a few teeth in to scare the players a bit.
Then.. Uhm.. I painted him. Edit: forgot that before I painted him I applied modeling paste with a toothpick, making a more rocklike appearance.
Bonus carrion crawler I made while the roper was baking.
These are great! And the paint jobs are awesome! I will admit though, after seeing that gold bead used for the roper's eye, I almost wish you had kept it. Something about metallic pupil-less eyes is always creepy, like angler fish, haha. Keep up the good work!
This is the first miniature I made, back in February. Finished a sloppy paint job today just to get him out of my way. Not planning on using him in a game any time soon, so I have time to fix him up if I feel like it.
Quickly threw together a spectator for tuesday's game. He'll be a socially awkward, book-loving guy looking to make ANY sentient being passing him by into a friend. He'll either be a valuable ally or a potentially lethal adversary.
I sorta forgot to base him, so I guess I'll just glue the wire to some clear plastic and add "rocks" to it to cover some of the wire up.
I bought a couple of Hulk cake toppers from China. Thought they'd make good hill giants or something similar. They're the perfect height and they've got a pretty ok pose. Easy to pop a club in the right hand and maybe a rock in the left.
In order to cover up the fact that it's the Hulk, I added a beard and a large nose. Also added a padded vest.
After all that had cured, I added a bear claw cape, one boot and some fur bit around the other leg.
Not super happy with the way the cape came out, but I'm going to add modeling paste before I paint it, in order to rough up the fur a bit.
Will post more pics when it's getting closer to done.
And yeah, it's a bit short notice, but I'm not too concerned about paint jobs.
Just a thought: Try a Sin City - like color scheme*, i.e. black paint paint, grey drybrushing, perhaps a few white highlights (again, basically just drybrushing) - and then one or two details in a very bold color. I tried that recently and fell in love with that method, so I'll definitely do that more often in the future.

sgtslag: Started working on making hills, which match my Tee-Time carpet I use for my "grass mat," on my gaming table, for big battles. Got two long chunks of open-cell foam, from a friend. Used my Proxxon Hot Wire Cutter to make terrain hills out of them.
Jul 26, 2020 20:12:40 GMT
sgtslag: Came up with around 80 hills. Covering them with the same carpet, from scraps. They will match the tabletop, perfectly. Contact Cement, is my friend. Will post on it, when I get the pictures uploaded. Some prototypes done, as proof-of-concept...

Sept 14, 2020 14:16:19 GMT
sgtslag: 50 Hills completed, 24 left to cover the sides on. Hoping to finish this project within the week. Then I'll post a build description. For war gaming, but it can cross over to RPG sessions... They match the ground 'cloth', perfectly.
Sept 19, 2020 19:03:09 GMT
sgtslag: Sorry, randywest, the listed makers are the only ones I know.

sgtslag: Ran out of Hot Glue, with only five hills left to add a skirt to the sides of. Wal-Mart closes at 8:00 PM, thanks to COVID. GRRRrrr! Another 30 minutes of work, and I would have been done: ~77 hills, modular, perfectly matching my table's ground cloth!

sgtslag: Will post a write-up soon, or after next week's vacation. Cheers!
