I have made some of those crates the exact same way! I put a little bead on the top of mine and they haven't ever made it passed the primed stage, but still cool to see the concept somewhere else! I think that they look good. As for their size... some shipping containers are pretty large, so I think it works. And hey, for the cost that it takes to get that many... that close of an approximation for even smaller crates is still awesome!

well, the paint jobs look fantastic, as we have come to expect from you,
I gotta say tho' I'm a little disappointed with the mold of the Rancor's face, just thought they could have done it better
...and the soda caps for containers, awesome idea the paint jobs on those look great also, thx for taking the time and sharing all this with us dude, u rock!

Thank You guys.
Erasmas: I've had those crates primed for over a year now. maybe even two. I finally got around to painting them, which is why I'm just noticing their size. The grey primed ones don't look so massive somehow. I did make a smaller one last night, so we'll see how that one looks.
Draklith: I agree that the shape of the rancor isn't fantastic, but we're talking about a toy from a mostly vehicles line. And it came out in the 90's to boot. Like I said, it's not perfect, but it's intimidating as all hell on the table.

Good paint jobs.
Seriously wish I could get my hands on some of those, most likely worth their weight in gold on ebay now.

Thank You runningwolf. As you probably know, the Imperial Assault is available pretty much everywhere. There's even deals to be had in places. I was just on E-Bay and the Action Fleet Rancor is going for between $20 and $40. Not bad for such a large creature. As for the WOTC metal Star Wars figures, I searched like hell to find those when no one was looking, and I still don't have all of them. Now that Star Wars is big again, it's getting ridiculous.

I do have a few of the ships and actually play the game.
If only I would win the lottery so I could get a 3D printer my friends and I would never be lacking for good sci fi minis.

For those just starting on SW, ToysRUs is having a epic sale on the Star Wars Command miniature line ($10 for 50 SW minis!). They are roughly 54mm so a bit larger, but they will also go well with cheapies like the True Legends Bucket, Pirates Bucket, Galaxy Team Laser, Knights on Amazon Etc. $50 gets you a mountain of minis and a whole word of fun.

runningwolf, which game is it you play, the WOTC RPG, the old West End Games D6 system, of one of the Fantasy Flight games? teazia, I actually took a scale shot of different Star Wars figures for another forum and I stuck one of the Command figures in the back of the line up. Here's that shot... They won't match anything I'm doing but they're nice figures. I've been picking up a few whenever I see them. I just know if I don't get them now I'll wish I had. I'll have an update coming in the next couple days.

Thank You Draklith. That's one of the Knight Models Star Wars figures. I only have a few of those, and since they've discontinued that line I don't think I'll be getting many more. The miniatures were ridiculously expensive anyway. Gorgeous, but a bit too pricey for my wallet. Update time. I'll start out with a little known character from the Imperial Assault box game. I replaced the Lightsabre blade with brass rod. I do this with most of the Jedi miniatures I paint. This avoids Bendy Weapon Syndrome that is common with most plastic figures. Next up, an pair of WOTC metal Jedi. Once again I replaced the blades with brass rod. This is so the blade widths match the ones from the plastic figures. Then we have a pair of Heroes from the Imperial Assault box, Gaarkhan the Wookie and Mak Eshka-rey the Bothan Saboteur. The bothan turned out pretty nice. The wookie is suffering from a shiny wash. The dull coat helped some, so I'll be giving him another blast. Darth could use one too. Then there are the two Nexu figures from the Imperial Assault box. I'm posting photos of them with and without bases. What do you guys think. Should I use the bases or leave them off? These creatures are the only prequel references in the whole game. And finally I have a pre-painted model kit of the X-Wing that is just about perfect for a terrain feature in the game. I did some heavy weathering on this to make it look more Star Wars. I also added some details in the cockpit. Since it's meant to sit on the ground in a hanger setting of landed on a planet you'd expect the canopy to be open pretty often. I also have a shot of the X-Wing with a couple Stormtroopers to show the scale. That's all I've got for right now. I've completed quite a few of the figures from the box set. Pretty soon I'll be able to start working on the expansion figures as well. I'm trying to figure out what to make for terrain. Death Star corridors are pretty high on the list, but I'm looking for ideas. Let me know what you think.

Brass rod is such an ingenious idea for the lightsabers. Going to be stealing that for SW and D&D. I hate the bendy swords.

This isn't an update. Instead I'm showing off some older Star Wars models. These are the old WEG/Grenadier line that came out in the late 80's and early 90's. I'll show off the Imperial first, as I haven't had time to shoot the Rebels and Rogues yet. We'll start with a group shot of all the Imperial...
So here are just the Stormtroopers. There are some Sand Troopers on the rear left, and two Scout Troopers at the rear right. Four converted Clone Troopers are standing at the very back of the group. That's over fifty Stormtroopers in all.
Next is the Imperial Army. These are the regular army troops that are used when elite Stormtroopers are not required. Yes, Stormtroopers are elite. I know the joke is that they can't hit the broad side of a Bantha, but ask those guys one the Tantive IV if they ever laughed in the firefight. Oh wait. You can't because they're all DEAD.
Next are the Imperial Navy troops.
Then we have the Death Star Gunners and my one Imperial Pilot.
A Death Star droid and two Probe Droids. (Not the best painting on those Probe Droids.)
Imperial Officers, including Grand Moff Tarkin.
The Nogrii, and alien life form created for the Heir to the Empire series. These came out really well, I must say.
And the Emperor and his guard.
Some of these are quite old paint jobs, and it shows. I decided not to re-paint them. I can use that time to paint newer miniatures and make terrain. I also want to keep these as a reminder of my painting style from years ago. I may cringe at the paint on the Emperor and his Guard now, but at the time these were some of my best stuff. It's a good idea to keep old artwork. It keeps you humble, and it reminds you how much you've grown.

I think they look great. I remember having some of these in the 90's. They were smaller than 28mm and I found it darn near impossible to get the storm troopers to look right (it seems you did not have this issue). I think you've done a great job painting them.
Now I want to play the old West End Games d6 star wars RPG. Nothing like rolling two handfuls of dice to get your point across.

Nice to see the Nogrii get some attention. They were always my favorite race of aliens. The part they played in the Thrawn Trilogy was great.

I've always wanted to see Vader and some Nogrii kicking arse together in a video game of TV show.

Thank You lordbryon. I really struggled with the Stormtroopers at first. Eventually I found a way to paint them that took half of forever, but looks good. When I started painting the Imperial Assault stuff I used a method from YouTuber Sorastro's Painting. It's a lot easier, but still takes a while to do. I think it's impossible to paint Stormtroopers without going through some pain. Oh, and the D6 Star Wars game is one of my two favorite RPGs ever. Who doesn't love a game that you can teach to a complete newbie in minutes, and they'll remember the rules forever. Once the Wild Die rule was added I think it became the perfect RPG system.
Thank You DungeonMasterRandom. I love the Nogrii too. I waited a long time to paint these guys, just because I wanted to take my time with them.
I'll be posting some more old WEG figures in the next couple days.

More WEG Star Wars figures. This time the focus will be Rebels. The first shot is of all my Rebel Troopers. The Wolfman in the front is actually a patron of the Cantina, but I figured the rebellion wouldn't have the same hang-ups about aliens in their ranks as the Empire does. Next is Admiral Ackbar with a Mon Cal assistant, and Princess Leia with an Endor trooper. Some Jedi. Han, Chewie and Leia, all in their original costumes. "Look Sir, Droids." C-3PO and R2-D2, another Protocal Droid and another Astromech Droid. And to finish off, some Imperial vehicles. This AT-AT is an old AMT kit that is long out of production. Some folks say it's too small, but I think it's perfect for use on the tabletop. Some Stormtroopers at it's feet for scale. And three AT-STs. These are the old Fleet Action toys that came out back when the prequels were big. Once again, some say these are too small. I disagree. The last shots I'll leave you with is the AT-AT and AT-STs together so you can see how well they match up. Hope you enjoy these. I have one more figure done for Imperial Assault, but I'll post that when I have something ready to go along with it.
