Hi, crafters! Finally I am done taking the photos for the Sunless Citadel. It seemed as much a Herculean task as making the stuff! The journey starts in the Fortress Level, which I have detailed in another thread. The Grove level is a weird underground garden complex. Lots of mud, compost and sickly plants and healthy fungi. Some creatures in here are alterations to the module (needlefolk, lurking strangler) and some humanoid minis are supposed to be other things (like dolgrims and dolgaunts) - I just haven't got the right minis yet. Yet. Some areas also have coloured lighting - it is not a camera malfunction! As mentioned in the Fortress thread, there is great risk of spoilers here. If you are going to play this and like surprises, then stay away! As a favour, and if you have time, could I please ask a few viewers to provide some minor feedback on the tree at the end - I have taken four shots right at the end of the album showing variations on the "face" (mouth, no mouth, extra gashes, no gashes or mouth). I have hummed and hahed about the face for ages and have changed the mouth umpteen times already - I am fine with the rest of it. Otherwise... enjoy! Sunless Citadel - Grove Level

The lighting in the images greatly help set the mood. This looks like it's going to be really immersive game sessions. Nice work!
Personally, I'm a fan of the mouth. I would go that route. The others are good too, but the face in the tree is just more eerie.

I love the lighting effects, they really add to the "alien" feel of the pieces. Is that something you're able to replicate during game play?

I love the lighting effects, they really add to the "alien" feel of the pieces. Is that something you're able to replicate during game play? I just used two desk lamps with normal coloured paper blocking the white light. The red tint (Shrine of Khyber) was very intense on the camera, so I had to move the lamp further away. To my eyes, it looked good and didn't have that intense effect. Same with the green tint in the Twilight Grove - I had to keep it far away from the tile for the camera, but it just looked nice to my eyes. With the purple tint I was able to get quite close as there was a lot less light getting through the paper. In game play, you could easily have the desk lamps burning (or even just one) - I had normal house lights on as well, but you still got the alien effect from the lamp. The green tint especially made the white-washed shrubs glow and added eerie highlights to the Gulthias Tree. One more thing on the table, I guess, but make the most of your tiles, I say!

Fantastic work as always, Cyan Wisp. I love that tree and agree that it looks best with the mouth. Truly creepy!

Holy cow - you've been a busy little beaver. Everything looks phenomenal!
I agree with everyone - keep the mouth. To me it adds a lot to the feeling of the set.

Oh my word your dungeon tilesets are such beautiful works of art Cyan Wisp. Let me tell you quite honestly that the tree at the end is a magnificent piece of crafting that anyone would love to have as a terrain piece.

Somehow, I totally missed this. Great job! I would have loved to run though it with tiles. The weeping tree looks amazing! I am very very impressed.

So all of the pieces in this are far friggin' out, but the Gultjias Tree thing is amazing. That is the most sinister tree monster I've ever seen.

These are really cool! My favorite bits are the dismembered eyeballs, the bleeding tree, the thuqqua (at least I think that's what that's called), the chess pawns (I think I have those same exact ones, actually), and your use of marbles on the arcane pedestal things - brilliant.

can't believe this... i was thinking of giving my player that very adventure. and what i find, a perfect exemple of what to show my players once they get in there...
great work, really wish i had the passion to do this though.

That weeping tree is really, really eerie. Especially love the thorn ended limbs, the unabashed white to pop the red and the blue-purple tones elsewhere.
It's gonna be hard to fall asleep now...
Thanks for the pics- Z

for those who wonders... the sunless citadel is a DND adventure written by wizard. its for levels 1-3 and is quite the long adventure compared to the others they made.
the thing is, the weeping tree makes a fruit once per year and actually spreads evil thru his seeds. and the tree itself can take 24 hours to engulf a character that was attached to its trunks. then he will simply release the characters 24 hours later as slaves to spread the seeds even more. quite a nice story if you can find it. its a 3.5 or 3.0, dont remember. definitely worth playing it !
