I just had a thought: What about using painted washers, you know like Chinese coins? They come in different sizes and different metals, all you'd have to do is to denote the denomination and add the realm they're from, like: First Bank of Golorian, or some such. They would be easy to carry either in a pouch or on a cord. And I believe they are fairly cheap. If you want to paint them, that would be easy enough to do with spray paint or Sharpies Metallic markers. Guess I'm going the hardware store soon!

I did something like this, in paper, for a campaign I ran for a friends kid and his buddies. After one game, one of them pilfered my bag of spare "coins", thinking he would then never run out of money. His friend ratted him out, so I incorporated it into the campaign. He had, apparently, between active adventures, held up a Kings payroll. So, now he had a price on his head, as the King was after him. We role played out the return of the cash, as part of an amnesty deal at a later part of the game..

I have purchased a bunch of pirate coins which I've been experimenting with to make coins for my game. I think I'm going to try and file off the imprint on the coins with a belt sander that I have access to. This will also get rid of the coating that is on the coins, making them easier to paint. They'll still have their odd shape and it should make it easier for me to use the stamps I purchased to put the monetary value on the coins. Below is the thread where I show the coins so far. Coins
