I re-organized my photobucket page, so time to show you some stuff. Some miniatures are new, some were posted in the old forum, some are repaints of toys or heroclix, other are home made. Let's start with my last fatigue, the Hangman Golem, aka, the Rope Golem. Some days ago I had thismarvelous idea: let's make a rope golem, it will be easy, it's only made of wires. I was a pain in the... hands to make, I ended with a lot of cuts, and themetal wires were covered in plastic. Also the final result is so so, and it's too big for a Large figure. Full gallery here.i think thw hangman gollum is fine , but you mention the wire is plastic coated , and that it was hard to work with . what about this : take 2 really thin long lengths easy to work with wire and twist them together to make a rope texture . then form your golum , the thin wire should be easier to work with , prime it black , wash in brown , drybrush in a tanish rope color to bring out the rope texture . i'm probably going to try and make one using that method , or perhaps a few . i can use them as psychokenetic attacks by an insane psychic inmate .

Great stuff! Kind of reminds me of what some guys did at one of the wargames show I attended last year, using Dr Who character building figures (sort of like lego, I think they are compatable?) Pretty cool using legos/playmobil, if I had the room, I'd jump on it, my kids would love it! if i lived in england , i would be neck deep in those DRWho lego sets , such a GREAT show , and the miniatures game looks fun too !

Wargamers don't generally use grids, and never have. Since wargames were the birth place of RPG play, why the hell should we use grids? I started out gridless, and now I am back to playing that way again, I can't really see many ways that grids made the game any easier.. the are constrictive, overly complicate a basic, common sense issue, and, they detract from immersion in the scene. But hey, don't take my word for it. Try it and see for yourself. actually , i play Dust Tactics , its the "WierdWarII" game i mention . its played on a grid , and is every bit a "wargame" . while YES , some wargamers (mostly the WH40K hadcore fanboys ) cant seem to wrap their minds around a grid on the table visually , it drasticaly speeds up play , and reduces cheating ( intentional or otherwise) . using the grid , i dont have to spend time leaning over the table with a tape measure ; measuring moves or range for my 50+ figs every round . the troops occupy a square , so i just pick them up and plop them down in that square , there is no "move and a smidge" issues , BANG , they are just there . their square either occupies cover , or it doesnt , no discussion and judgement call about it , its black and white . same thing with range , the units range is X squares , and thats it , no "range and a smidge" issues by players . there is no rules lawyering over what angles and % of the fig is in cover to get the bonus , its either in cover or not because the square is either in view or its not . some one earlier in the thread talked about players trying to min/max their move and attack options ......i can see that , but for us , the grid dramaticaly increases the pressure to think tacticaly several moves ahead . weather its my turn or my oponents turn , we are both thinking and ploting what we and our opponents are going to do for the next 2-3 turns , and as those turn go by our plans evolve and change based on what is happening vs our plans and predictions . YES , the grid does make some things harder , like terrain creation and the battle field DOES have a grid visually placed on it . the company that makes it also makes a couple of gridless versions (one just came out a couple months ago ) , but there was a poll last year , and more than half of the customer base played the gridded version instead of the gridless version . going gridless looks nicer to a degree , but it comes with its own issues . i am hoping to eventually get my project table cleared off and have a chance to getto work on my attempt to build forces for the DoctorWho Miniatures game , which will be more of a skirmish game , and plan to use some of DMScottys techniques to build some stuff for that , but i can see the benifits of going gridless , AND keeping the grid , and though i dont really play D&D RPG more than once every few years due to my workschedule , would be equally happy to sit in on a group session playing either way . <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="" src=" ">

for those that have seen the pics of the large based monsters i did for D&D , the bases are 2inch bases from wizkids "mechwarrior" game . since the game is so dead , the figures pop up from time to time at game stores and such for pretty cheap . if you buy them , the mechs make great "bits" , and the bases pop apart into 2 halves . its a great way to get a fairly sturdy 2 inch base for large figs , from bits box leavings

thanks . sometimes when i am gaming , i run into a young wargamer , there is always one , they make horrible looking conversions of lots of figs , painting stuff that looks like it was done by someone that was colorblind AND having a siezure at the same time they were modding the fig , and i just try to overlook the fig , because THAT was what MY stuff looked like when i first got into gaming . to produce stuff like this ..................oh the figures i ruined all those years ago

some more D&D pics of the warforged greens , aswell as a iron clad mauler . the mauler was actually a bear figure that i added green stuff to to turn it from a small toy into a beast of war !!! and the mounted paladin/warrior , the green with the sword in the pics with him was an unmounted version of the same fig . <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="" src=" "> <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="" src=" "> <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="" src=" "> <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="" src=" "> <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="" src=" "> <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="" src=" "> <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="" src=" "> <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="" src=" "> <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="" src=" ">

ya , i know , this forum is mostly dedicated to fantasy , but i figure some WH40K figs for the players that are into wargames too ..........and besides , some who knows what players might find lurking around Barrier Peak ?!?!?!?!? <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="" src=" "> <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="" src=" "> <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="" src=" "> <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="" src=" "> <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="" src=" "> <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="" src=" "> <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="" src=" "> <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="" src=" "> <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="" src=" "> <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="" src=" "> <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="" src=" "> <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="" src=" "> <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="" src=" "> <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="" src=" "> <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="" src=" "> <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="" src=" ">

thanx guys .
bythe end of my beholdere phase ......well , its not fully over yet , .......i dont think it will ever be fully over ......i could get a basicbeholder sculpted in about 10 minutes . the gauths are harder because they are smaller , and getting them all in proportion is a little harder .
and while i did like sculpting the figs , i am nowhere near good enough to do it as a job , and my current job leavs my hands to sore to really do it much anymore .
i reached my limit of photobucket hosting (free account) but i will post more pics when i get the time to post them on dakka dakka

i once had a character that had been shot at by arrows while hiding behind some dead fallen hollowed out trees while watching the enemy camp , the GM rolled so badly thatthe arrows went well away from us for that encounter , which only served to convince my character that either the bark was majic , or the arrows were some how enchanted to not be able to shoot at the trees and schrubs , so he broke up a bunch of the bark and branches with leaves , tied it aroud him with some rope in place of armor and proceeded to go adventuring against the kobolds that had killed his family . the GM kept rolling badly (in front of us , no GM screen) and my character survived with only a few minor scrapes , the kobolds on the other hand were wiped out to the man ! your tree man makes me think thatthats what he would have looked like in a very monty pythoneque sort of way .

yes , they are printable online . just go to their website , the rules are one coupon per customer per visit , and they make a new one every week , so you gotta print new ones if the old ones expire because the cashiers need the new code # on them . OR if you have a smart phone , you can use the digital version as long as its big enough for the cashier to see the code # . fortunatly for me there are 2 on the pathto my FLGS (if i take a little scenic rout , so i print up 4 , hit each on the way there , and swing back by on the way home .
each coupon is good for 40% off !

and here are some MAGEKNIGHT figures i did . because mageknight alowed you to mix and match your armies factions at your own whim , i bought some of the large based figs , and took the figs off their bases and replaced them with my own figures to match the faction of the army they would be in . <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="i replaced the bull with the modded golum " src=' '> <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="this one was a mixture of zoid kits " src=' '> <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="zoid kits , golums , woodsies , plastic bits galore " src=' '> <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="the arms are a hodge podge of bits , but the center ball is actually a plastic christmas ornament that i added stuff onto to turn it into a golum construct " src=' '> <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="THIS one is mostly me . all the round shpyrical segments are wooden balls , the arms are wooden dowels with more wood balls for segments , all joined and decorated with greenstuff " src=' '> </a>'> <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="all the round sections are wooden balls joined together to build my dwarven roto-steam dragon " src=' '> </a>'> </a>'> <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="zoid bits , bionical bits , and TONS of greenstuff " src=' '> </a>'> </a>'> <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="zoids bits and greenstuff " src=' '> </a>'> </a>'> <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="more zoid parts , more greenstuff , and more wooden balls " src=' '> </a>'> <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="zoid parts , greenstuff , and wooden balls for the necks" src=' '> </a>'> <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="more zoid parts , green stuff , and wooden balls " src=' '> </a>'> <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="a ton of golum parts , green stuff , and more woodenballs " src=' '> </a>'> <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="i wanted a golum catapault , yes , more wooden balls and detail bits from the hobbylobby " src=' '> </a>'> <img style="max-width: 100%;" alt="my atlanstis guild battering ram " src=' '> </a>'>

thanks . the first one i did was a learning experiance , his eye stalks are hard to do because i used wire and covered it in "greenstuff" , which was dificult to work with in that manner , all the rest (except for the ravenloft beholder and the eye of the deep ): the eyestalks are JUST green stuff sculpted , with small beads at the ends for the eyes . the first one and the mage are also the only ones i made the teeth seperatly for , all the rest i painted/drew the teeth in because it was much faster and easier to get them smaller that way . the center of each beholder is a wooden ball i got in the woodsies section of hobby lobby ; with the exception of the first beholder i made , ALL the other beholders on kin , their big main eye is actually painted on the surface of the wooden ball insaide them and as for the spell warped spider beholder , i always think of him floating along the cave ceiling , stalking like a floating spider amongst the massive webs he weaves

first , the beholders and their kin . i have always thought that beholderss more than any other monster were icons of the D&D world , because they were so different than anyother monster , and were mainly only found in D&D . dragons and the like could be found in a pretty much EVERY fantasy world , but beholders are to fantasy what the DALEKS are to scifi . and i always thought beholders would be happy most of the time , smug in the knowing thatthey are the most pwerful beings in the universe and are the most perfect form and image of life .........................( atleast in their own minds ) i sculted these 8 or so years ago , and still have them on my shelf , refusing to let them go durrng spring games cleaning . <img src=" " alt="" style="max-width:100%;"> <img src=" " alt="" style="max-width:100%;"> <img src=" " alt="" style="max-width:100%;"> <img src=" " alt="" style="max-width:100%;"> <img src=" " alt="" style="max-width:100%;"> <img src=" " alt="" style="max-width:100%;"> <img src=" " alt="" style="max-width:100%;"> this is one of many gauths i made , this particular one was always my favorite of the batch . <img src=" " alt="" style="max-width:100%;"> what kind of beholder builder would i be without making a gouger to keep them all in line ? <img src=" " alt="" style="max-width:100%;"> this is one of my halffiend beholders , because a REGULAR beholder isnt bad enough ?!?!?! <img src=" " alt="" style="max-width:100%;"> this was actually the first beholder i ever made , and while i like him , it was a learning process <img src=" " alt="" style="max-width:100%;"> another of my halffiend beholders , arent templates WONDERFUL ?!?!?! <img src=" " alt="" style="max-width:100%;"> when i was sculpting these , 3.0/3.5 was current , and with the open license there were tons of companies making supplements . one such bestiary had a template for spellwarped creatures where they had been magicaly altered or combined with another creature , in this case a pig and beholder . i always had a special place in my collection for this guy , sure he is half pigish , but he still holds no less the fury and indignation that every other pureblood beholder exudes . and FYI , his favorite food is myconids , which he can smell from miles away ! .......... oOHHH so many potential scenarios center around this guy <img src=" " alt="" style="max-width:100%;"> another spell warped beholder , this time mixed with a spider , as an ultimate creation , warped by the drow to destroy their enemies .......... to bad its almost impossible to control a beholder lest he destroy the hand that feeds <img src=" " alt="" style="max-width:100%;"> another spellwarped beholder , this time mixed with serpent essence , his bite is almost as deadly as his gaze ! <img src=" " alt="" style="max-width:100%;"> and of course an eye of the deep !

WOW , i had 2 ofthose , i used them as armatures/filler for a couple of warforged chargers i made for the D&D minis game . i sued them instaed of sculpting from scratch on a wire armatture because it would have sucked up A LOT more greenstuff , but using sped up the projects to 2 nights (including curing time . i also took aplastic leopard as the armature for a warforged with a tauric belt for the same reason . sadly , i had to sell them after a spring game cleaning purge of games i dont actually play anymore i think they are about half way down the page . www.facebook.com/hobby.guy.39/photos?ref=bookmarks

AWESOME idea . one ofthe things that irks me about RPG games is that even as a lot of groups opt to play with miniatures , the companies fail to release minis for hard to invent creatures like this .
and , they make sticky ended sticks for model builders . they come in various degree's of stickyness , but they would probably be easier to do something like this with than the twezers , especially if you did several at one go .
