Hey Dante!
LOVE the new tiles! Texture on both side looks GREAT! Question for ya. The total footprint of your tiles, including the walls, is it 2.5" by 2.5"? Just wondering, as like we discussed, now the option is there to use a wall tile as an interior wall tile just by adding a plain floor tile on the other side!!

Yeah, the tiles are modeld to 2.5 inch by 2.5 inch. I just converted 2.5 inch to 63.5 millimeters. It made it easier to figure out brick placement and wall height if done in mm.
Your right that the double texutre does look better.

I really like your intro animation you do each season. You really nailed the Myst and Journeyman Project feel. I'm guessing you're in the video game industry? Ah, if only. But no; nuclear engineering. I dabble in 3ds max for fun. That said, I have made a few flash games that are essentially Myst clones (google "Worldgate" and "The Freewill Cycle"). jayisgames.com/games/worldgate/jayisgames.com/games/the-freewill-cycle-volume-1-redux-edition/So it's funny you mention those two franchises, which are my top two favorite of all time.

Actually, I'm the one who guessed which song you used in your third video in the YouTube comments. The Leonardo de Vinci level music from Journey Man Project 2. Journey Man Project series was my favorite PC game growing up. Spent many hours playing that one. That and Zork Nemesis, but it wasn't as much fun as Journey Man. I've been meaning to contact and ask if you would like any help with video animation or motion graphics. I'll be out of school soon and would love to work on something that would help the channel. I'll send a PM if you want to see some things I've put together.

Dante3rd, those tiles looking AMAZING! I couldn't of done that good a job! I was having some problems with using Blender and that was part of my frustration (along with being sick and needing a break). Glad your making this happen! Love it EDIT: Updated the header of this thread, putting me at bottom (with a note that I'm taking a break). I put Dante3rd in the list of people on project. dmscraft.proboards.com/post/52474/threadADMIN: can you please give Wyloch editing rights to my posting in this thread at the top? Is this possible? The posting that lists the team, the design, etc.

My Beta openforge 2.0 x1.25 are going much better so far. The lighter tiles and thinner walls make for a stronger magnetic bond (plus they are cheaper and faster to print). When I have 8-9 I will make an update with pics.
Cheers.

Welp, never mind bout that tile being printed. Simplify3d picked it apart and found too many errors/holes for it to print. Sent the screenshot to Dante. Dunno how to correct this issue!?

Sorry about that guys. Its the first time I've tried 3D printing, and the original models I made were going to be printed on a FormLab high resolution printer that cost about $4000. It uses liquid resin that is hardened with UV light projected by a laser. Its able to print without lines, and generate hires detail. I wasn't sure if that would work on other printers since the tile loaded inside PreForm. But I see that other printers can't handle the poly count on the tiles. Doing some research and I see that most printers can't handle models with over a million polygons. Looking at the open forge tiles, a very low poly version will have to be made for other printers. I'll see if I can make something more compatible. Its hard to know what will work until someone tries the models out since I don't own a 3D printer.

I've been reducing all of my models down to a poly count of about 50,000 (from over a million), with no loss of perceivable detail.
Try running the model through NetFabb to clean up manifold and self-intersecting surfaces. The model will likely need to be decimated first to reduce the poly count and file size. NetFabb can only handle a 100mb file at a time.

NO idea what to do from here... Hmmm.....That is a good question. Try running a print preview in Makerbot Desktop (it is a free program). If it is screwed up in that, there is something wrong with the file, and the slicing software just doesn't know how it is suppose to print it. I will see if I can throw together a Wyloch single wall tile later today to see if I can get one working.

K. Loaded the 'repaired' wall tile in Makerbot Desktop and did a preview. Floors seem ok, but the walls themselves, when I zoomed in, won't print correctly. Pockets everywhere.

Starting to play around with Wyloch tiles. Building off of the model that Darkness posted on page 5, I constructed two versions. The first is similar to the standard look of Wyloch tiles. The seconds is more akin to his Castle style. Obviously, no detail has been added. This is just testing the waters. Both field tiles clocked in at $0.38 (based on a $23 kg of plastic). That seems high. To me, the tiles seem too thick. Thoughts? V1: V2:

Both tiles 'look' good to me. Once you put some texture in there I think that'll help! As far as thickness, the 'floor' pieces do look a little thick!? As long as you're hitting the key #s it should be ok though. 2.5" square tile total, walls 1/4" thick 1/2" tall off the floor, floor pieces being 1.25" square except when up against a wall. Perhaps the floor pieces should be under 1/4" thick!?
