I think if you go with V1, but remove the topmost squares, that's your building block.
I only did the two squares with chipboard to give illusion of depth and detail. With a 3D model that's not needed because you can texturize at will.

I agree with Wyloch on V1. V2 just add some texture!

Here is a V1 with texture. I removed the top most layer of the grid. The tiles now measures from the table top to top of the tile 11/32". I will vet a print in the morning. Does 11/32" throw a monkey wrench into the system? $0.31 to print this one.

Printed test field tile. Not sure if there is too much topography on the squares. Will miniatures with small bases topple easily? Too much distance between squares? Will table legs and such get caught or be unable to lay flat? This this a concern? Am I just over thinking everything? Thoughts, comments, suggestions? Should the 1/4" base have slightly rounded corners? I will start a single wall tile next.

Not sure how to most eloquently ask this...is the gap between the spaces double the "gap" between the a space and the edge of the tile itself? That's extremely important.
I would not round the corners of the base itself...table will show through.

It may be larger than double in certain spots simply because of the chipping/texture of the stone work. No rounding the base, copy that.

I wouldn't round the corners on the sides, maybe the point on the top of the corner. Or a very subtle hardly noticeable roundness on the edge but I like the square look when they are all pieced together. That way there isn't gaps in between in tile's corners. EDIT: oops .. i see this has already been covered

The dead end tile is designed, I just need to add the texture. I will probably do a diagonal tile tomorrow.
I will attempt to paint these up tonight yet...but it is getting late. My gut is telling me that I need to redo the texture on the Field tile so it better matches the others. I wont know for sure until it's painted.
I will also throw the files I've done so far up on Meph's google drive, so people can print, alter, or just play around with.

After some breaks in printing, and some focused printing, I now have 20 or so alpha and beta OF 2.0 x1.25 tiles. Beta on the left: Laid out this is what you get, bootleg Captain America (er Captain China) for scale: This is what I will be using as supports as I have yet to go into vertical tiles: Hey its a crystal castle disco! Other variations are possible: With my beta tiles, plastic minis should be ok with this kind of arrangement, if you are slammin lead, then that might not work. I am please with the beta tiles, the lower weight and thinner walls really improved the magnetic link. I think they can be further improved with a bit of sanding, as there is an irregular bad lip on the edge of the tops that due to tolerance issues can abut causing a weaker link. If I grind them down a bit they should work even better.
