More creature feature from the Twisted Caverns. I was looking for a good mini for a deepspawn but could never find one I liked... so I made my own. DeepspawnDeepspawn are infamous horrors who give birth to many other varieties of monsters; a single Deepspawn can make a vast area dangerous, even for alert, well-armed adventurers. Deepspawn look like large, rubbery spheres of mottled grey and brown. Six arms project from their bodies; three are tentacle-arms, and three are jaw-arms, ending in mouths of many teeth. A Deepspawn also has over 40 long, retractable, flexible eye stalks it extends only three or four at a time, well away from harm.Inspiration pic: Materials needed:Super sculpy firm(grey) green stuff aluminum foil aluminum wire beads weapon bit PATIENCE! Use a ball of aluminum foil as your base and apply the sculpy to it. Sculpt o desire shape and bake. Then use a pin-vise to drill your holes for your aluminum wire to which you will add sculpy to and make your tentacles. I sculpted an arm, then baked it, then another arm, etc. I used green stuff for the eyeballs and for the tentacle eye stalks. The eye stalks are aluminum wire with green stuff over it - making the eye stalks flexible and can be positioned in multiple poses. The eyes on the eye stalks are small beads. Prime, paint, and seal. I used a flying base from an old space marine land speeder. I really like using the super sculpy firm - it was easy to work with unlike green stuff. Finished product. A fun project. Hope you enjoyed my craft.

GMPeter The texture I got from my sculpting tools. The pattern cut into the metal sculpting tool to assist with grip, I just rolled it over the clay. Thanks for the compliment.

What a cool monster. You've done him proud too. Great paint job as well as sculpt. Have you worked with the pink Super Sculpey yet? I find it's easier to shape and mold, but it's also easier to screw up as you're working. Both are much more fun to work then Greenstuff.

No, I have not worked with the pink super sculpy. This was my first time working with sculpy and the grey firm is very easy to work with and easy to sculpt.

Hey, I really like the looks of your DeepSpawn. I've done some sculpting in decoration clay, but it's real messy(and real cheap) plus I'm worried it will break, if manhandled. I wanted to ask you about green stuff, Super Sculpey and your experiences with it. Looks like Fimo will be the easiest thing to get ahold of here in Denmark. Have you tried that? And do you know about the differences of firm and soft Fimo or Sculpey?

I've worked with green stuff and super sculpey firm. Sculpey is very easy to work with and seems to me fairly durable. I love that I can work on a piece, walk away and come back a week later and pick right up where I left off at. Your have to knead the clay a little to get it to wear you can work with it. Green stuff on the other hand is harder to work with - you have a limited amount of time to sculpt with it before it hardens. It is very sticky and you need some kind of lubricant to keep your tool and fingers from sticking to it. Water work fine. I've used vegetable oil, Vaseline, KY also. With the Vaseline and oil, you have to wash before painting.
Out of the two, sculpey is SO much easier to use, but green stuff is better for fine details and to work with miniatures. As you saw above, I use a combination of the two.

Thanks for replying. It sounds awesome to be able to sculpt and do other stuff and then sculpt. With the decoration clay, you're fighting the drying time constantly, and your hands dry out as a bonus. I will try to look for Super Sculpey Firm. Would your DeepSpawn survive being dropped, after baking?

I just started rereading The Gates of Firestorm Peak. It's really awesome to see what you have done here. It is a big undertaking, and I'm glad someone is doing it. Great work so far!
