My latest: some buzzsaw blades which can go anywhere in the D-crawl, be it chamber, corridor, ceiling, or stairs. Round one:The PCs hear a quickly rising whirring sound echoing in the floor/walls/wherever. (start to panic...) Round two: Sinister saw-blades shoot out from nearly imperceptible groves in the stonework!!! Round three: Saws race in their tracks, back and forth across the area, slicing mercilessly anything and anyone in their path! (I kinda like the idea of a mechanical trap having to take a moment or two to prep itself, for the gear to turn or the catches to release or whatever. Certainly a saw blade might need a moment to get up to speed. The PCs may hear the noise but not know where its coming from or what is about to hit 'em. A moment of suspense and terror!) There could be a whole chamber of these hidden blades where the party realizes traps are present, maybe roguey notices the little grooves in the stonework. It would be like crossing a minefield....disarm each or get cut. However you wanna use 'em, these are easy and cool. Cardstock saw-blade and carboard base. To get the saw "teeth" I came up with a nifty technique: used a hole-puncher and then scissors to cut one side of the hole into a curve. See photo.
