Second tree attempt The first attempt was made with coat hanger frame and sculpey I've found that sculpey breaks easy over time hopefully the wire hot glue will last longer they are posable to a degree so that may help with durability

I prefer hot glue and cardboard as you say sculpey is easy to break.

I wouldn't call it an attempt.... I'd call it a success! Well done!

Super gnarly looking trees! I like them. I agree with the hot glue and wire trees over sculpey. Sculpey is too brittle for things like branches. Plus, hot glue will stay posable. That's come in handy when storing, more me. I can bend them flat.

I made a tree out of air dry clay just for kicks, and it came out great, but it's purely to look at. I've already broken off one limb just trying to move it. I've also made lots of trees out of wire, but again, mostly just to look at. Here's an exam You can make a tree out of wire in just a few minutes while watching TV.

I made some Treant armatures out of wire, very similar to adamantinedragon's example. I applied a 'skin' of Hot Glue; painted with PVA Glue, and dunked it into a bowl of sand for texture (borrowed the techniques from another member of this forum). They are painted brown, with some small glass beads for eyes -- not quite finished yet, but they look very good, IMO, so far. They are also durable as the Hot Glue is quite flexible. Really looking forward to making more, and deploying them on the table for my BattleSystem games. Cheers!
