Hello!!!
Right to it:
I have 2 minis here to share, one is an old Space Marine from 1987(exact 3d render), and a new 3D sculpt. One I did for nostalgia, as I had this mini for a bit when I was 12 or so, now lost with many others. I saw it available for print so I had to have it again!
Yes I felt the old juices flowing while I painted it simply. This time around Im more familiar with the brush lol. The only thing I did different here was use a black oil wash to finish it off. Highly recommended!
This one was the Personal challenge, really well done sculpt that I had to try my hand at new color combo and non metallic metal technique. I must have repainted that blade and tasset 5 times or more:
Just noticed he doesnt have eye brows.... oh well!
Anyway, I had fun with both and I hope you all find a way to reconnect to the hobby like you did when you started, and push those limits on skill.
Cheers!

Lovely job on the fancy slashed outfit!. I still get my old Ral Partha painted with enamels out to look at every so often. I won't let my grandkids use them in case they get chipped. I suppose a lot of people would strip the enamel now and do a subtler repaint in acrylics. But I like the old ones the way they are, even if all I use now is acrylics

Well, there are different shades of interest in painting mini's: some like to paint to the best possible level; others like to paint to get them on the table to game with. I chose my low level of quality for painting mini's 25 years ago, because I had a different goal in mind, than to paint to the highest level. Different strokes for different gamers. If painting to higher levels of quality is your thing, full steam ahead! Me, I follow a different drummer. It's all good, man! Cheers!

Are they mostly simple paint jobs and for sure not top grade? Of course. Can I toss a dozen in a show box with some dice, pens, a note pad, some character sheets and haul them in the car for a week because the game was moved and not worry? Yes I can. My goal with most of my mini collection was to be able to place them on the table and not worry if my small son got ahold of them or my friend dropped one onto the concrete floor, or no worry and feel the need for super soft storage. As you said, "I had different goals in mind".
