Worked on adding bases to a bunch of minis I am preparing to paint. Started building various things like the blood pool for the Vampire Queen. Started work on some columns with skulls. I think I will add clay to the larger ones that I can sculpt a bit on. Built a wagon from little bits of wood. Also working on a well. Thinking on how I want the base town to look like I am probably going to modify Phadalin. I definitely want to make changes... I also want to give the village a different look and vibe altogether... population should better reflect the setting too... so I am thinking on how I really want the village to look like and be.
Nice work. I would suggest painting the bottoms of the bases with PVA Glue, laying them on edge to dry; let them dry on either wax paper, or parchment paper, as it will not stick (much) to either one, peeling away relatively easily. It should help warp the bases back to flat, assuming that you applied the top-side sand using PVA Glue? Cheers!
The wood bases are a bit warped to start with... so that is a problem... I will try the paper out. Tried picking up pledge, I will have to go farther... apparently there was a run on that cleaning supply and the stores closet to me are sold out. I am so done with the panic shoppers and hoarders in my Village... Salt and Vinegar chips too. At least they stopped panic buying all the Vegetarian canned beans and Tofu... they were not even vegetarian they were just afraid of getting COVID from pork and beans and chicken. Sigh. I am using the good Elmers 50/50 and putting a second layer of the glue mix on top of the sand. Then I seal the figure... which is scheduled for this weekend.
Anyway I am using commercial washes and better paints on the above skeletons and on these I started repair work on or just started... the Ral Partha were all unwanted minis we adopted years ago and have been languishing in boxes. So this is just the first few stages... the two skeletons in the group are modern plastic The unicorn has a rider that is just an ugly glob of paint so I will be spending time tomorrow stripping her.
The hoarding of toilet paper is still making me laugh! "The sky is falling, Chicken Little! The sky is falling! Buy up as much TP as you can get -- forget about food! Buy more TP!!!"
What will they do with their 4-year supply of TP?... Hopefully they will watch DM Scotty's crafting videos, and build gaming terrain! LOL!
There are numerous versions of Future/Pledge Floor Polish. See what they have, and if it says it is for restoring shine to floors, it will likely work. It is basically acrylic medium, without any pigment. You can add in acrylic paints, alcohol-based inks/dyes, or even water-based inks/dyes to it. All will work. Cheers!
erho: I will once again rise above Lurker status if I ever get back to painting, Real life work transitions... Adulting

sgtslag: Started working on making hills, which match my Tee-Time carpet I use for my "grass mat," on my gaming table, for big battles. Got two long chunks of open-cell foam, from a friend. Used my Proxxon Hot Wire Cutter to make terrain hills out of them.
Jul 26, 2020 20:12:40 GMT
sgtslag: Came up with around 80 hills. Covering them with the same carpet, from scraps. They will match the tabletop, perfectly. Contact Cement, is my friend. Will post on it, when I get the pictures uploaded. Some prototypes done, as proof-of-concept...

randywest: does anyone know more manufacturers for 1/72 fantasy minis besides Dark Alliance, Caesar and Elhiem?
Sept 14, 2020 14:16:19 GMT
sgtslag: 50 Hills completed, 24 left to cover the sides on. Hoping to finish this project within the week. Then I'll post a build description. For war gaming, but it can cross over to RPG sessions... They match the ground 'cloth', perfectly.
Sept 19, 2020 19:03:09 GMT
sgtslag: Sorry, randywest, the listed makers are the only ones I know.

sgtslag: Ran out of Hot Glue, with only five hills left to add a skirt to the sides of. Wal-Mart closes at 8:00 PM, thanks to COVID. GRRRrrr! Another 30 minutes of work, and I would have been done: ~77 hills, modular, perfectly matching my table's ground cloth!

sgtslag: Will post a write-up soon, or after next week's vacation. Cheers!
