Any recommendations for a Hot Wire Foam Cutting tool? I looked at a few on Amazon and it's tough to week through the reviews since they are usually polar opposites. What do you guys use and would you buy it again? Would like one with multiple attachments (straight tool, wire cutter, etc).
Thanks

The Proxxon Wire Cutting Table is the bomb!!! Don't take my word for it, though. Search for it on YouTube, and see what other people (crafters, in particular) have to say about it. I am using mine to cut extruded foam insulation pieces into modular cavern pieces. I keep the cutting wire vertical, for the ends of the long oval shaped foam pieces, as they need to butt up against other pieces, end-to-end; for the sides, I angle the cutting wire, and I move the foam in a wavy pattern. Basically, these techniques give me plausible, underground river-carved, modular cavern wall sections, which I simply need to paint, and add some sand in random spots, to create very decent caverns. I use DM Scotty's sponge painting techniques on foam mat floor tiles' smooth bottoms, to create a mottled, 2.5D Next'ish base, then I place the cavern sections on top, in an appropriate pattern, to create full 3D caverns. I use these primarily in BattleSystem Skirmish games, rather than D&D RPG sessions, but they're super simple to carve on the Proxxon Table. They are also super simple to complete: add some small patches of sand, paint, stain ( The Dip), and then game! The Proxxon Table is capable of far more than I have mentioned, or tried. It is an amazing tool, especially with the add-on tools you will see on YouTube (have not purchased any, yet...). I also plan to make a circular cutter tool for mine -- too easy to make, can't see spending money on this add-on. With regards to hand-held cutters, I can't comment. Never used any. There are plenty of videos on how to make them yourself, though, on YouTube. Cheers!

I agree with sgtslag for the Proxxon table. But I also have quite a few of the Hot Wire Foam Factory tools. The table is great for cutting lots of pieces quickly and you can easily cut consistent angles with it!
I also have the Sculpting Tool and Hot Knife, think mine is the 4 inch one. I do have the Scroll Table but have never used it having picked up the Proxxon instead.

Woo-hoo!!! It is... Amazing! Mine is a luxory item, without a doubt, but it is sooo easy to carve up 3D cavern pieces that I need for my modular cavern system. You will love using it. The mechanics of the system are really good; the current/heat control is fantastic in function.
I've only carved pink insulation foam, so I can't comment on white foam, or the black open-cell foam. Let us know what you think! Cheers!
