I decided to start a thread about my 3d printing. I will add to it over time. Recently Curufin posted a nice set of 28mm Fallen Warriors on Thingiverse. I downloaded those, printed them and finally painted them. The models came out great. I also recently saw a video on Youtube on The Crafting Muse's channel wherein she showed how to make blood pools. I thought the blood pools would go well with the fallen warriors and put some together.
The pic below shows my take on the blood pools. They were made with pva, red ink, and gloss mod-podge. They peel off the surface when dry, but mine were a little flimsy. The 2 darker blobby things are like piles of entrails and organs. I don't like them very much.
In order to make them more sturdy I glued the blood pools onto pieces of clear plastic from blister packs from minis. Then I applied gloss mod-podge and let them dry.
I wanted to tart these blood pools up with some Tamiya Clear Red, but I found the bottle had been knocked over and most of the liquid had leaked out, leaving some stuff that looked a lot like congealed blood stuck to the outside of the bottle. So I applied those dried up pieces of Tamiya clear red to the blister plastic, too. They are the two smaller pools with the dark outer edges. The pic below shows the blood pools in a dungeon with mini for scale.
Here's one of the 3d printed Fallen Warriors on one of the blood pools.
The next pic shows another fallen warrior on a blood pool. I accidentally broke his leg off when taking him off the build plate. Happy accident.
I ended up breaking the head off of this mini but figured I'd just use her as having been decapitated. The original had a spear but I cut that off and am using it to represent a dead mage. That way I have a Mage, Ranger, Cleric and 2 Fighters. Looks like a TPK
Thanks for looking. I hope to have more pics soon. I want to make a big outdoor market. I have 12 of Curufin's Market Stalls printed and primed. They need assembly and painting. I'm experimenting with making a board for the market using a combination of Fat Dragon Games Village Street pieces and the new Devon Jones OpenForge cobblestone streets. I'm trying to print them without the base portions and making the two different styles match in thickness. My plan is then to mount those thin print-outs onto 1 foot square vinyl tiles. I'm generally dropping the build height of the street pieces by about 6mm. This will save both print-time, PLA, and money. Still a slow process. Anyone done anything similar?
