Hi guys , new here. I been doing some terrain out of the 2 inch thick insulation pink foam and am at the point I need a good hot wire cutter. I bought one for around 35 and it promptly bent on the second cut and broke. Since then I looked at the hot wire thermo cutters and the proxxon table cutter but they both seem to have bad reviews on amazon. Is there any quality foam cutter that is durable out there? What do you guys use?

I purchased my hot wire tools from Hot Wire Foam Factory, but if you've got the money to spend, m3talslime's looks to be a good table mount version also. I'll need to check that one out!

I got the freehand version, Proxxon Hot Wire Foam Thermocut 12/E and I can recomment it. To be honest, I also got the one that m3talslime has (lucked out and got an extremely cheap one on ebay) but I never even used it so I can't give you a direct comparison. It's a bit embarrassing... The good thing with the 12/E is that it comes with a separate power supply that can be used for other proxxon tools like the FBS240/E grinder, which is one of the few must-have electric tools for me.

Just in case it isn't obvious to some readers who are new to the craft, the Proxxon "grinder" that Tauster is recommending is another brand of "Dremel"-style rotary tool. One with European voltage, for those who need that. Also available with USA voltage, but it's called a rotary tool here.

Same here...
Since I decided to open an Etsy shop and see if I could make some sales to help further my skills and procure better tools, I purchased the 3D scroll table with four tools, I have been extremely happy with the customer service I receive, and haven't had any problems with the tools
I do have a suggestion for the hot wire knife, which Im guessing is the tool that you broke. At the connection it can be reinforced with a small piece of brass tubing that works great...also you should learn to allow the cutter to melt through the the foam, instead of forcing it through this will give you better cuts and more longevity with the tools

Draklith makes a great point, do not try and force the foamcutter through the material. While the wire is strong, the foam will eventually cause it to break if you're forcing it! As it melts the foam, some heat is dissipated out of the wire, so going slow will give the wire time to heat back up enough to continue melting the foam.
