I see curio cabinets are affordable at $100 or less used on ebay. They often come with glass shelves and lighting.
I was wondering what you guys thought about storing them in a cabinet like this? Would it keep most of the dust out? I heard that dust still gets into these cabinets?

It depends on how tightly the doors close. I kept small curios in the cabinet of a small secretary desk for many years. That had hinged doors, but they fit quite tightly and locked. I dusted every five years or so - and not much dust even then. The curios are now in another cabinet that can fit in the wall-to-wall bookshelf we have now - no room for the secretary any more. My "new" thrift store cabinet has sliding glass doors set in channels in the wood, so the only way dust can get in is the narrow air space in the overlap of the glass panels. So far, it's staying at least as dust-free as my old cabinet.
Since you can't see how tightly doors fit on an ebay ad, you might want to look for the glass-in-channel type of "door".

Why just a curio cabinet, when you can create a shadow box?

Definately no exaggeration. I remember commenting on the Babba Yaga hut when I first joined. My cabinet seems so plain now. Time to get crafting.

It depends on how many mini's you have to store... For my armies, I don't have the space for shadow boxes. I use deep boxes, with multiple trays; each tray can hold around 150 mini's. Dust is the least of my concerns... Cheers!

Shadow boxes are a very big waste of space when it comes to storage ! but i agree they are that much cooler then just plain old boxes. the problem is that you can put so much into a background before it becomes too cluttered and becomes the inverse of what you are wanting. the best exemple would be me putting next to 50 heroes miniatures around that dragon. while it would look epic as shit, it would also remove the immersion of shadow box. and yes i have over 50+ heroes minis for my players to choose from.
