I've been making errain ever since I was 6 and my dad got my brother and I into model railroads. Well. The train set went by the wayside when we moved in my Sophomore year of high school, aqnd the terrainmaking kind of did, until college, when some friends introduced me to Warhammer 40K. Fast forward 25 years and I have done everything from hot wire cutting of foam for cliffs, making my own flock, making my own bases for minatures, cardstock buildings, Hirst Arts and a little bit of everything in between.
I'm going to use this area as a place to post pictures of a little bit of everything I have done.

Wow! Very impressive cliffs. If you decide that you don't need them anymore, you can always sell them on e-Bay, to war gamers... They should prove quite useful to us. Cheers!

thanks sgtslag! Glad you like. My love of terrain building came from being a strategic wargamer. The other guy in my group who GM's wants me to make mor efor his dessert-themed game. If they aren't going to be kept, I'd definitely consider selling them.

Love it, that is some nice looking cavern terrain. Would be a lot of work creating a large cave system but well worth it. Great job.

Awesome! Love your version of this. Seeing them multi level...that's why I use/shared this method, I just love it! I also really dig the way you carved the edges. What was your process? I personally just got my hot wire tools in the mail so any further tiles I add to my set will be carved with that rather than the way I did in the tutorial, but I'd still like to know your technique as it could be used on some other applications.

I used BMC's method with an X-acto knife. Cut in and twist. The one thing I did differently, though, was...I wanted some more horizontal lines, where in BMC's video, it was all vertical. I'll see if I can put together a video. Might take a couple weeks as I got several glass commissions on my plate.
Basically, I wanted the horizontal lines as well as vertical. I cut the rough shape, leaving around 3/8" around the rough outline I drew. I cut some deep vertical vees in, and then started going around the top, cutting horizontal cuts anywhere from 1/16" - 1/8" from the top all the way in to the rough outline. Another 2-3 horizontal cuts at different angles, and then some shallower vertical ones. Then start to alternate until it looks right.
Someone on the TerrainTutor's Terrainiac's FB page suggested taking a rough rock and pressing it in to the foam. And if you twist said rock, it creates interesting fracture patterns. I had taken a regular screwdriver and scraped things up a bit, but want to try the rock. Another video I saw suggested using a drywall saw for an interesting texture as well.

I love how you textured the sides of those cliff walls

For my rock faces, I take a broken piece of cinder block and a very rough broken rock and beat the foam with them. It gives natural looking indentations and fractures.
I gave my last set to a new group at my local gaming store. But, I'll post some pictures when I get the chance to make a new set.

I'm right there with you on making terrain! I make it for games I don't even play. What everyone has said about the cliff carving, but even more, as a painter first, I love the color choices for the cliffs! Many would have been tempted to do the traditional grey. The contrast between the inside and outside is fantastic. I also love the color of the door.
