The screams, cries, clash of blades & other essential noise that a violent street encounter entailed stopped abruptly their attempts at dismembering each other temporarily forgotten. "Do you hear the clopping of hooves?" "Yeah...lots of hooves..." At the clarion call of a trumpet & the battle cry "Iter Mortis!" the rival gang members looked up just in time to see the leading ranks of Dwarfen Knights & sturdy War Ponies at full gallop a heartbeat away. That was the last thing they ever saw. Following gingerly behind the vanishing Knights & Pistoleers, was a motley crew of garishly clad mercenary foot: "Do watch where you step" "That really must have hurt." Have you noticed that good minis create their own stories as you paint them? In this case the story involves a group of Renaissance Fantasy minis, Dwarf Cavalry & Foot with some Hobbits/Halflings, & a few Human types. I figured they's be part of my Urban Blight boards. I pictured the cavalry charging stirrup to stirrup & wall to wall down the narrow alley ways, ridding the slums of the various thugs who haunted the streets. With little or no room to avoid the charging Knights, the end result was a truly messy death aka road kill. Thus The Blessed Knightly Order of the Gooey Death was born. I have most of the infantry finished with the cavalry cooking along nicely, but, to give a sense of history, I start you off with the W.I.P. photos. The Pony Soldier, Knights & Pistoleers, miniatures by White Knight: Foot Sloggers of various types: The color photos will follow as soon as I can focus my eyes again, but here's a sneak peek: ...until then.

Absolutely wonderful - as can't be expected otherwise. I really love the black & white paint jobs you did! I tried something similar with reaper bones plastic minis a while back: I scrubbed them clean with hot soap water and then simply gave the white plastic a black washing to bring out the details. It was OK (i.e. good enough to game with), but it didn't look half as good as your drybrushing. I simply didn't have more time (half a day before the game session, with lots of prep work still to do)... So next time I'll try your way. I could imagine that doing that b&w paint job with a very few highlights in strong colors works wonder... Sin City, anyone?

[snip] So next time I'll try your way. I could imagine that doing that b&w paint job with a very few highlights in strong colors works wonder... Sin City, anyone? Thanks, tauster. I'm glad you like the stuff thus far. The full gray scale effect is supposed to be quicker than a full color piece. The effect for a dungeon style environment/game would probably be stunning...definitely Sin City. Random idea: Paint the PC's minis in that gray scale style and highlight only the things that make each character class unique: - the fighter's weapon / shield (armor would be too large), - the mage's wand/familiar/spellbook/wizard's hat - the cleric's mace/holy smybol - the thieves dagger

tauster: Thanks for the suggestions. I have quite a few West Wind Vampire Wars minis that would look terrific in monochromatic. I'll have to do a few test pieces...stay tuned. @the Brave: Thanks for the reply...glad you like them.

I finally finished the Pistoleers leaving only the four Knights of the Blessed Knightly Order of the Gooey Death left to do. SO I figured it was time to post some photos of the new Pistoleers along with the Mercenary Dwarven Rogues & supporting cast for your entertainment & edification, but mostly to get some motivation from all your kind replies to get going on the Knights. AND NOW The Blessed Knightly Order of the Gooey Death sans the Knights: ...the Pistoleers: ...the Mercenary Dwarf Rogues: ...Halberdier & the Captain ...Beardling & Babe: ...Sharpshooter & Engineer: ...Halberdiers: ...Doppel Dwarfs: ...The Goblin with No Name & Dead Dick Turnip: ...Hired Spell Slinged & Henchfrog: AND The Group Portrait(s): ...there you go. Keep in mind all your kind remarks will only motivate moi to paint more miniature, which in turn will mean you will be subjected to further photos of dubious quality.

I'm surprised you got all of them to sit still long enough for a team photo Amazing work. Each piece suggests a story behind it. I love that.
