I am new to the forums. I have just recently come back to table top role playing games after not playing for years. Found The DM's craft on Youtube when I was looking up information on D&D. This is a wonderful idea and I will lurking around for ideas.

It has been 20 years since I have DM a game. Thanks for for the warm welcome. Welcome to the forums. That's about the same stretch I had when I returned to gaming late last year. If you have a good group it will all come back to you.

Welcome aboard.... and same here after a long stretch I came back to gaming.
Thing that got me about the 2.5d method was that it is versatile, not just for one genre but any. Harder finding sci fi RPG stuff. Change the paint scheme and the 2.5d tile work for every kind of genre I can think of.

I am starting from scratch in all aspects. I have nothing from my hey days of playing in the past. I don't have a group of players as of yet ether. I felt that this part of the hobby would be attractive to my significant other as she is an artist. She sculpts and paints. It is my secret way of tricking her into playing table top RPG's. She has never played any table top RPG. I have slowly wore her down with other interests I have like anime and Akira Kurosawa's films. It does go both ways as I know more about Gems and jewelry than I used to. But yeah.

Try to put an ad on craigslist for players.
Another way to trick the g/f is looking at TableTop on YouTube (Wil Wheaton). Forbidden Island is a cheap co-op game. Not an RPG but good to get her feet wet.
I lucked out with finding a nerd girl who games. As it is campaing I am running has just her as a player.
Suggestion to get some friends to try playing might be to get the LotR on DVD, a few bottles of wine (if you're of legal drinking age). Make a movie marathon night of it and see if they might be up for playing.

We are moving in about a year or less; I am holding off looking for players until that. At this point I am just gathering the things I would need to throw a good game. Books, miniatures, and such. I have two very old friends that we are planing to play with the next time we are all together, but that is like once a year as we all live very far apart. I am very lucky as well that my significant other is an artist. She is very open to helping me make these things. Our lives are slowing down, and we are trying to change our habits from the things we used to do in our 30's. New hobbies, better habits, eater better. All that middle age hubbub that people face when you get into your 40's. I can no long climb mountains, swim ocean, and slay dragons in real life. I will just have to do it in game.
