Though I'm nearly done with the HQ set, I'm going to put it on the back burner for a bit and work on some Reaper figures for PCs. Should have a few more to show you in a couple weeks, but for now...Dorian Starbow. Pretty happy with how he turned out, despite the face. I painted it for a friend, who runs games for his kids, so kinda hated to see it go. After this pic, I touched up the mud on the bottom of his cape and fixed the strange highlight on the right shoulder. Forgot to get a finished pic of the rear side though. While I like this miniature, his pose alone puts his sword at risk. This was made worse by the fact that it came with a nasty bend. Looking online, it seems to be a problem with the mold, because every picture I looked at had a bent sword. This one broke off entirely, but after some effort, I got it re-attached. Like sgtslag was saying, Future makes a great sealant. One side effect that I was not aware of is that it also weakens the poster putty I use to stick minis to paint bottles. When I picked this back up to check for pools, it slid right off into the floor. The sword not only broke, but completely vanished. I ended up replacing it with one off my Bones Lysette, which turned out much better, I think. It's a much cooler sword and far more likely to stay attached. That's all for now. Thanks for stopping in and for any feedback! More to come...

Howdy,
Have you done a showcase on the terrain in those last pics?
I'd like to see it, Kev!

Nice painting -- very nice painting. Did not know about the Pledge Floor Shine affecting poster putty, but now everybody does. Thanks for sharing the photo's, and the issues. Cheers!

Thanks a lot, Slag! I was pretty pissed when it happened, being as I was done and just needed to seal it, but it worked out. And now we both know. On the other hand, the Testors Dullcote was much more effective at taking away the glossy shine than with my previous attempts at sealing this way. I'm guessing this was environmental related, so I'll have to experiment.

Here you go, SpielMeisterKev!. I think I did share it a long time ago, but the picture quality wasn't great so I just snapped another one for you. It was for my 4e game, and was going to pit my PCs against the two Carrion Crawlers I made. Unfortunately, it never got to be used except for these pics.

Thanks guys. I've ran a couple one-off games recently, but just don't have a regular group at the moment. Hopefully it will get played eventually, though.
Kev,
Like a gleeful child, you rush over toward the well, staring down expectantly as you dangle and drop the rusted dagger you picked up from among the ruined hall. You can see the water at the bottom of the well, barely shimmering in the darkness, but the dagger vanishes into the depths. Unnaturally long moments pass before you finally hear the faint splash as the blade punctures the water's surface. Before the splash can even settle in its trailing echo, the sound of rushing water reverberates up the well, like the raging River Spitz after a fresh spring rain. Your roguish smirk collapses as you see a pillar of water, crowned by the now gleaming dagger, charging up toward you, toward the sky. As you stumble back, the water forms the shape of a large man, wielding what appears to be some sort of glowing, magic dagger. Uh oh. The others are going to be pissed. Especially the wizard...

I like the green on the chaos warrior, just enough to make it pop, not to much color to take the gloom and doom off of him ;-) You know, if I wasn't building my own heroquest in 6mm, I'd be mighty jealous of your collection.(still kicking myself for giving my copy to a friend all those years ago)

Your Heroquest figures are coming along fantastically. I really like your style.
Now, did you say you made a pair of Carrion Crawlers? Can I see them? Please???

I thought of trying to do the colored armor that a lot of folks paint these, but decided on this because I don't understand how they do that, and because I too like the "doom and gloom" look of the black. Anyway, looking forward to seeing more of your 6mm project. And you can always pick up the original off ebay...

Let me coax them out of their cages... They're both kinda silly looking, but I like them. This is what the above encounter WOULD have looked like...

Appreciate the compliments, gentlemen.
Kev, the larger one with push pin eyes was built from scratch, using air dry clay. The tentacles are wire covered in hot glue, with bits of cardstock also textured with hot glue on the tips. The smaller one started out as a toy centipede. I cut off most the legs then heated and cooled the plastic to get the pose. It had writing on the bottom side, so I used miliput to hide that, and to sculpt the face on top of another insect's. Tentacles are just wires with hot glue again, with plastic on the ends.

Those Carrion Crawlers are so cool! What a great idea. I bet it was easier to make one, instead of assembling one of the metal miniatures. Damn, now I want one. Looks like another monster is added to the to-do list.
