Fantastic looking Dragon. All hail the power of the Sculpey. I'm making a weasel for my wife's birthday right now, and it's Super-Sculpey all the way.

I love the dragon. I just picked up a small block of sculpey and a few tools. I'm now waiting for inspiration to strike.... Still waiting... OK already, where are you inspiration?

I love the dragon. I just picked up a small block of sculpey and a few tools. I'm now waiting for inspiration to strike.... Still waiting... OK already, where are you inspiration? Maybe this will help. Try starting with a head, or the wings. Even the tail. Something iconic to start with. Then just play with the Sculpey and don't worry if it doesn't look perfect. Eventually it'll start looking like something. Once you're happy with that part, bake it and start making another part.

Thank you michka that was very helpful. Whatever I construct from the Sculpey, I'll be sure to give you honorable mention.

I usually start with doodles. I'll just keep drawing until something starts to ring as "what I was going for". Sometimes it doesn't even end up as the species I was originally considering. However, I'm rarely setting out for a particular species. I'm usually trying to evoke some emotion: Awe, terror, majesty, gross, etc. For this one, I was going for a combination of cute and majesty. I couldn't figure out how to do that with a traditional dragon, but through doodling, I found I was actually looking for a wyvern type of creature.
Once I discover more exactly the emotion I'm trying to evoke, the pose of the creature comes naturally. That's how I work, anyway. It sneaks around needing to get inspiration for everything all at once.
