I was at the dollar store to buy some foam core poster board, but I always check out the toy aisle, and I'd seen this little guy a dozen times or so but never thought it would work out, but something made me think I could make a beholder out of him. So first I trimmed off his legs and hands. I ended up also eventually trimming off his horns and arms too: Then I cut some wire from a spool. It happened to be dual wire so I had to separate them into individual wires, but no big deal. Using a pin vise (I will never understand why a hand drill is called a "pin vise" but whatever) I drilled some holes and glued the wires in. Then I used some beads to make the little eyeballs. I also had an old clear resin stand I hadn't used, it's not very clean, but I figured it would work: That just left painting it. Not a huge deal, but it was sorta tight working around all those wires. I admit he still looks a bit too cheerful, but hey, there must be happy beholders around.

I wonder ify ou would be able to cut the top part off and fasten his eye to where the feet used to be, might look a bit more mean that way

For some reason I find a smiling beholder very unnerving...
Nicely executed. Well done!

Maybe a friendly beholder? Would make an interesting twist in a story.

The Dollar store I went to had several pegs full of Mike Wazowskis. I did think of cutting the thing in half to turn that smile upside down. But when I was drilling I realized he was hollow, so not sure now that would work. If I do another one, I would use some epoxy putty to change the mouth. But that sort of complicates the exercise. :-)

Ha! this is great !! The first thing that came to mind was ....."Yay !! can I have an orange popsicle." .... (I'm not saying that is what the beholder is saying, it's just what popped into my head.....then again if a beholder said that....) Good job! great idea for modding any kind of dollar store toy. keep it up.

Ever thought about doing an adventure based on the Beholder mating rituals? This fella fits the bill.
I think that is a fantastic conversion. It really is quite good, and quite funny, at the same time. I could really have some interesting fun situations with this 'monster'... Thanks for sharing. Cheers!

Thanks for the kind words. The whole thing took me about two hours I guess. I would do more, but I already have a bunch of home-made beholders, and most of them have never seen a game, so I'm going to finish my riverboat and then find a new project.

At first I was going to say thats the happiest beholder Id ever seen, and then I remembered something.. These guys have always been happy. Misunderstood Jokes aside, LOVE the creativity here! Hot glue to add a bit more of an aggressive eye lid might be a bit tricky, but what about some of that cheap white model magic clay? Stuffs a couple of bucks for a small bag, and only like 5 bucks for a small bucket.

If I wanted to gussy it up a bit, I'd have used my Apoxie Sculpt putty. I deliberately kept this as simple as possible to show what you can do with minimal effort. I might buy another one and use some putty to make it a bit more nasty looking. But I doubt it, I've got a bunch of beholders already. I'm just glad I finally got my crafting area workable enough to do something like this again.
