It was recommended by Beetlewing that I come here and share this information with all of you lovely crafters! This effect was used to large extent in my Steam-tech Airship Project, for all of the copper elements that were included on the ship. I use acrylic craft paints that you can find at Michael's, Hobby Lobby, Walmart, etc. Now... I'm not 100% certain on which brand the two colors for the patina color are, but I do know that these are the color names on the bottles. So keep that in mind. First, after priming, you want to basecoat the object with your patina color. This is the one that I use: 3 parts Green Clover (Apple Barrel?) 2 parts Ocean Cruise (Folk Art?) Then, once that's dried, you simply apply a heavy drybrushing of copper over the top of this. This keeps the patina down in the crevices and low spots where this kind of verdigris would have gathered! That's it... it's as simple as that! Good luck and good crafting, everyone.

Now thats an amazing timing: Ancient copper or brass is just what I had in mind for today's Razorwind project! Thanks a million, that saves me a lot of time.

Thanks for posting this - I'll have to try it soon... I love me some copper! Kind of funny one of the colors is Ocean Cruise, given the project you posted it on

There's another method that I've used on a lot of things that I found from in vid a while back.

well im kind of a cartoon like guy. so i'll just say that your boat figure looks sick compared to his statue. i think his statues didn't look like bronze much.

I think his looked a bit more like rubbed aged bronze. But, it is certainly a "to each their own" kind of situation. Thank you very much for the compliment!

I just now discovered this post. Man, that's a cool technique. Also, I was thinking, if you painted the statue with that base patina color and left it at that, you would have a really nice malachite look to it. I'll have to play around with that color scheme and see if I can get something like that.
