I keep coming to a bit of a problem when it comes to doors, which is that, while I like the concept of more robust crafted doors, they are among the most tedious items to make, and I am often unhappy with the result. Using popsicle sticks is cool, but time consuming, and I have often gotten frustrated with the process.
Cardboard crafted doors are easier, but I am often unhappy with the detail my meager skill permits.
Hirst art doors or other molded portals require time, money, and talent that I may not fully posess.
This brings me to the idea that perhaps I should stick to something simpler: Papercrafting.
Printing out the images and then cuttong them out, doing some minimal folds for set up, coloring (if even necessary)...seems like a great solution.
However, I seem to be only finding 3D doors in my searches. So here I am asking for the papercraft masters (AJ and Dungeonmistress to name a couple)for some much needed assistance.
What I am looking for are door models (preferably several types) that can be printed, folded over, and either attached to a Paper model stand or can stand on its own via a triangle stand fold at the bottom. The latter is preferable, but anything that requires bare minimum of folds will work, so I can get my necessary quota of doors finally done.
Any help in finding this stuff woulf be greatly appreciated guys!

Fat Dragon Games has a set of wooden doors, as well as iron doors, in one of their Copper Dungeon tile sets. They are actually 2.5D: they have both sides, and a base; fold them in half, and you get both sides of each door, and then you fold the base to make a T-shaped model; glue the door sides to each other, and then apply the base to a cut-to-size piece of vinyl floor tile, for a base. Here is a link to a photo of the wooden door, with several viewable: door photo link. Cheers!

One thing that might work in upgrading your doors a bit is to take a core of corrugated cardboard and then nabbing cardstock to make the boards on each side and the bracings. Or even slot doors which tend to be rather easy, take two pieces of corrugated cardboard that you cut to be the outer edge of the doorframe and stonework there, a third piece that fits along the outer edges on the sides that space the sides out. Then take a piece of card stock that has your door done on it (You can either paint it on, print it on, or even just glue printer paper of it to each side) and make the total thing with a tab tall enough to raise over the center. When the door is open, you remove the door piece, when closed, insert it...
If you're doing a lot of things you want to look as if made of wood, the best tool to have is a wire brush that you can drag along it to simulate the grain if you want it.

If you want to do a lot of paper-crafting, I would recommend learning to use a program called Scribus. It has a bit of a learning curve, but basically you plop down "Image Frames" on the page, link it to an image of a door you like (just use Google's Image finder), and duplicate the image frame over the other, rotated 180 degrees. It sounds more complicated that actually is. I use this program to do a lot of things where I want pictures, text, graphs, etc. in an exact spot on a printed sheet of paper. For instance, I use it to make a DM Cheat sheet that has PC portraits and key stats, as well as making fold-over initiative cards to use on top of a DM screen. The DM screen is also custom made with this program, it's best feature is a custom ruler printed across the top for easy positioning of the aforementioned initiative cards.

Wow, I guess I should have clarified...not quite THAT 2D. Then again, 2D may be the wrong term here. Good suggestions though. I'm still looking around for something I like, but any suggestions are welcome. Afterall, somebody else may be able to use these ideas too.

Some of WWGs' model kits had the fold over style door as well, but unfortunately, you've got to buy the whole PDF. I'll have to see if I can find out which kits had them.

I've been doing more paper craft these days, only because of time constraints. (and my day job is as a graphic designer so.. why not) I just find doors from google searches "old wood door" "castle stone door" etc. I take those images into photoshop to manipulate as needed, i.e. warp, cutting out backgrounds recoloring etc. I just did a few 3 weeks ago to slap together a 3d halfling village. I basically made a few walls, windows and doors and printed them on card stock, then i glued them together lego syle. made some train tracks too. (steampunk campaign). I would have done it a bit different had i had more time but i literally did this project 3 hours before gameplay. im kinda new to participating in this forum, but if i can figure out how, i'll place a few pages when i get home (at work now) on this site. there are a few on RPGNOW.com that look pretty cool. i just don't like paying if i don't have to.

I originally sized these doors for medium sized townsfolk, but cut the bottoms off to fit these halfling buildings. rouseau is correct, for dungeon doors, i flip the image and add flaps to the bottom with texture for the base, then print cut and fold. If you like any of these doors or have a door in mind, i'll create a page you can print and use.

Howdy, The Spielmeister is so TOTALLY going to go all AJ on these doors... cut some cardboard/cardstock for the raised areas of the doors like they are 2.5d walls then cut and paste the pic pieces like he did for the tiles... I am very excited, Kev!
