It might just be because of the backdrop you have in your first picture... but I love the decidedly "1st Edition" feel that these miniatures seem to have.
Good job so far, Admin. Keep up the good work and keep pushing yourself!

Thanks. I'm not a good painter by any means, they look ok at a distance. I thought It's about time I practiced as I have this lot coming!

Oh and none of my minis get primed, I paint straight on top of the plastic.

Those look like great paints, but way too rich for my wallet. (Get back here, you moths! Get back in my wallet where you belong! Unruly critters!) It's cheap hobby store acrylics for me, I'm afraid.

Which is why I bought 1 or 2 paints per week. Took a while to get all the paints needed to paint proper but at least I wasn't paying huge amounts all at once.

That's how I buy my hobby store acrylics, only it's one or two a month.

I, too, paint directly on the plastic, sans primer (usually). I seal my mini's either with The Dip (Minwax Polyshades urethane-stain) or Pledge with Future Shine floor wax (clear, high-gloss acrylic paint, minus the pigment), followed by a matte clear coat to dull the shine. As long as you seal the mini's paint with either urethane, or acrylic, it will be fine for many years to come.
If you need to prime plastic figures, artist's Gesso (white, gray, or black) is excellent. It is a water-based acrylic, which is brushed on (goes on thick, but it thins as it dries, forming a thin skin over the surface). Small pinholes, when dried, are common, but easily touched up. It has excellent tooth for any acrylic paints you care to use. Again, once sealed with urethane, or acrylic floor polish, your paint job will be safe for years of handling. Cheers!

great minis
I recently got Talisman 4th ed Revised last week (loving the game so far, a nice change from runebound!) Gonna try my first hand at painting minis with these ones.
