It was some time ago that I saw this done on a mini war-gaming channel and I have wanted to give it a shot because of the fact that the effect looks so realistic that its somewhat unbelievable. so here I have a mini reaper type figure midst a burning area with large plumbs of smoke.  |

That's a pretty cool effect - I hadn't seen that done before. When I first read the post I thought to myself "That's NOT a reaper mini - he's from the dollar store!" Then it hit me.  |

synthetic cotton pillow stuffing+ light dusting of black spray paint+ light dusting of bottom of red spray paint or brushing on or red acrylic+ speckling of yellow on the red.

Looks, good, especially the smoke. I think a dash of orange glow would add some heat to it, too.
