For spills, I can confirm. We had beer spills and, in our two last sessions, both mountain dew and arizona spills (an entire glass and an entire can!) that flooded the whole table, two character sheets and the mats. The mats were easily wiped dry (acrylic paint resists this -and- folding), and also saved the cardboard terrain on top of them due to being non-soaky.
Sidenote: to save a character sheet from a spill, quickly sandwich it between two scott towels. Works wonders.
Edit: I should also mention that they are all but impossible to leave permanent folds in. I carry my stuff in a backpack with the mats folded in half and often leave them in the bag for weeks at a time, folded. You only need to fold them in the opposite direction and let them lay flat for a few minutes and they're good as new.
For 1$ each... they beat everything else out the window on every possible aspect so far.

Wow! Thanks for the info on saving PC sheets, and also the other information on the mats. Gotta visit the local dollar stores -- soon! Cheers!
