Hiya guys, i've been doing miniatures for a while. got thru all of DMScotty vids and DMG vids. nice vids guys by the way.
after seeing how the trees in their vids have basically no foliage or using branches from real miniatures. i was searching for a way to make easy foliage out of common stuff found around me y house. first thing that poped in my head was toilet paper. and i wa slike yeah, that could be it. if i just rip it off, not leaving tight square spots. so i tryed it.
i first used DMGs toilet roll and hot glue to make nice tree textures. worked right. up to this point easy going. then i used up a square of toilet paper, picked the middle and glued it inside the tree trunk. not enough so i took another square and did this until i had a good bunch of them inside. then i started ripping the toilet paper once it was tightly glued tot he trunk, ended up getting a good vibe of it. after i was done, i looked at it. and i was like... yeah... its not all that good. but it ended up not all that bad either. so i guess the toilet paper was a good start. painting it was the biggest problem. man that thing eats thru paint like mad. i mean come on, its toilet paper, it absorbs water, duuuuh ! so i dont recommend using your own acrylic paint. spray paint it instead.
so i have no photo of it. guess i should try and take one once my camera is fully recharged. so i can show you. used all 5 of them in a game. it was nice to have trees and everyone liked it. so i guess its not a bad start for me.
and the question of the day... aside from the trunk, what you using to make leaves ?

You can get very realistic foliage material from floral supplies. One pack would be enough to last a lifetime. I managed to get a damaged bag of moss or lichen or something fluffy and green for about $5, and after making a couple dozen trees, I've barely touched the material. It appears to be the same stuff that hobby stores sell for railroad diorama supplies, but they really jack the price up when selling to hobbyists.
Floral supplies also have a ton of other stuff that is great for bushes, grass, flowers...

yeah i thought about cotton things... the only thing i dont like about your trees, is that they dont look too alive. they are too creepy. which is good for some but not all trees. i also dont like the trunk that is just too small.
all that said, your trees are awesomely done. for their kind ! like the idea for foliage though. i will try it.

Hmmmm....you aren't the first person to say that they are "creepy" looking. Im not sure why that it. They look like regular trees to me. For more "alive/realistic" trunks, you could always add some hot glue texturing.
