This is my new tablet. I snapped a picture of an active game of Chain Reaction 3.1 using Star Trek theme. I created a small dice box in the corner to play on the train. Also, using One Note, I can share it etc... It's cool how One Note lets me move/resize mini's on the fly - and for the calc, I used a tricky work around to have it in the corner (embedded in the One Note Page).
Tablet Chain Reaction It is bad-ass using One Note for gaming w/ friends, and having the dice box calc is awesome when taking train. I don't think too many ppl realise you can use One Note for free VTT experience...

It works only one a Windows tablet, or? I would like a Android VTT. Do you chat via Skype and share maps/picture via one Note?

I'll try it out on an android and see, and as far as being able to communicate w/ other players in real time there hasn't been any problem. I know One Note works on Android - it is an xml tool, so I'll give it a go. I just got my tablet, and this seemed like the simplest way to do things. I didn't want to deal w/ layers etc... I tried Vassal, and it freezes sometimes. Also, I don't like playing VTT with the sky-view-look. One Note allows to easily manipulate facing, and swap out front back easy enough.
I have to admit that I like this way of playing more than I thought I would. Not Cat interference, storing things, large table space, and with an old router as a bridge, range is far enough to play outside no problem.

Is that the same One Note program that comes with Office. I primarily use it for journaling. I had no idea it could do all that.

I was looking for a good program for something like this! The closest I could find was a highly specialized program for Role Playing called MapTool. Although it was very detailed and allowed for initiative management, fog of war, lighting, and health, it was very difficult to get it to all work smoothly. It was always a pain to get everyone connected and working right. I'd have loved to use something like this. Sadly, I don't have a tablet, so I don't think it's quite right for me. Do you know if it works with a keyboard and mouse on a PC?

I'll be straight w/ you - b/c I am using the full office 2013, I take advantage of the VB aspect of it. VB will not run in One Note, but I can programmatically call it. Maybe I should make a tutorial on the tricks I use to get around any limitation I run into - including how to dramatically boost your wifi router range. I'm simply not sure who is into that type of craft - for it is - If you can draw, then it's bad ass. Illustrator is fantastic for doing things as well.
I am thinking of joining rolld20.net - they have some very cool API features. I am not a fan of any D20 systems, but it shouldn't matter. Really it's story that matters anyway.
If you don't have a tablet, they simply use Vassal. Its pretty good, and there is a good amount of D&D stuff. I have downloaded lots of it, and it's ready and good to go. If you simply have to see the face of a player - thats simple enough to do. I don't personally like seeing ppl's faces, but rather audio.

I have been testing simple workarounds for everything, and I found one... No tech exp needed. Broadcasting from a regular computer to a tablet - works perfectly. As simple as just mirroring the desktop works like a champ, and gets around any limitations I have come across. I don't think this craft forum is the right place to get all tech - like, but I'll post an adventure, so ppl can get a feel of it - I'm working out a dungeon delve for party, but I always have to be prepared for someone to do something totally random, and end up doing the most unexpected things possible.
