Does anyone know if Wood stain will affect hot glue in any adverse way? I have a can of wood stain, and I was thinking about using it instead of paint on some doors, tables, and shelves in the dungeon. Just wanted to see if anyone else has tried it, and if terrible things went afoot.

I doubt it. I know leather dye doesn't for sure. There is also a difference between the water based stains and oil based.

I am a huge fan of The Dip, which is polyurethane + stain, for wood. It is a Minwax product, available at hardware, and DIY stores everywhere; they make a water-based version, but I use the solvent-based variety. I use it on my figures, which are nearly all Hot Glued to vinyl floor tile bases (it pools at the base, and on top of Hot Glue which oozes out from beneath the figure's base). I've never had an issue with it affecting the Hot Glue (thermal plastic), and I've had stain-varnished figures in my collection for several (many, actually...) years. The only issue I can foresee with wood stain, is that it won't be sealed, and it may be subject to wear, or solvents may remove it, if applied to non-porous surfaces.
You can seal everything with Pledge Floor Polish (formerly known as Future Floor Shine Polish). This is effectively clear acrylic -- add pigment, and you have acrylic paint. The Pledge Floor Polish dries within 15 minutes, unless it is particularly thick. I have not seen any of my Future'd figures turn yellow yet, and I've been using Future/Pledge for 5+ years. I also hit the Future'd figures with a clear matte coat, to dull their shine, unless I want them shiny (Ebonwrath black dragon, for example, as well as other dragon figures). Cheers!

Exactly what I needed to know. It is a Polyurethane stain. I was concerned with it breaking it down immediately or over time. It is good to know that it won't. I would be using it on wood (matchstick, popsicle sticks, etc...) I have used Future Shine in the past, and have had a good experience with it. I started using it when I was doing oil based paint washes. Thanks again!
