Based upon Pagemistress's fake trap ( here on the forum). Upon a successful detect trap roll, or spot check, the character detects the trap and a pressure plate in the middle of the floor. The only way the trap is set off is when the pressure plate is successfully disarmed / disabled. It is best to have all the other elements of the trap exposed to be found, like a giant boulder dangling above, obvious arrow holes in the walls, etc Anyone who accidentally steps on the pressure plate will hear a click and will only set off the trap on a 1% roll if they step off. The type of trap is then up to you. The normal difficulties still apply, but failure means nothing happens except for a 1% chance the trap goes off. Only when the rogue character disables the trigger does the trap actually go off... much to the disgust of the player.

When the rogue disarms that pressure-plate, they set off the plate to drop a Gel Cube behind the party? Have the hall ahead of them covered in bear-traps, then let the fun begin... (Bear-traps aren't a problem with a 10-ft pole, but it'll slow the fleeing party down.)

Demoniac, chd! Along those lines... caltrops released at the same time as gas starts entering room. Or caltrops + rolling boulder. Or, more expensively, Spike Stones on the escape route from a rolling boulder...

Then have it trigger a ceiling door that drops an anvil!
