Thanks thedmg! I need to get rolling on some more tiles soon. I'm hoping that the double layer or double sided tiling may help.

I know this might be sacrilege to some but, …
I have stopped using cardboard for basing, because I had a lot of problems with it warping. Now I only use MDF. When you have a good electric jigsaw and angle grinder, it is almost as fast as to cut as cardboard.
When relatives throw out old cabinets and closets, I go scavenging for MDF. I haven’t bought a single piece to date.
I also know that a lot use foamcore. Where I live foamcore is ridiculously expensive, about 40$ for a 28x40 inch sheet. And I am into cheap terrain.

Sometimes when I use expanded polystyrene, I will paint the piece twice with watered down white glue. This prevents the spray paint from reaching the expanded polystyrene. Otherwise the spray paint will eat away on polystyrene.
Have anyone tried this on cardboard?

Gessoing a big x on the back of the piece may help, or taking a bit x on the back as well.

There are two effective methods of preventing carboard warping that I've been using for 10 years: 1. Instead of using water-based PVA glue, use a polymer/nitrocellulose glue. It is very similar in density to the PVA glue so it is almost as easy to work with. It is just a bit more difficult to clean your tools. 2. Prime large cardboard areas with enamel paint (either modelling one like Revel or Humbrol or simply a home-improvement paint). And a bonus one, not always applicable: * Glue two pieces of carboard together in such a way that their corrugation is perpendicular Some examples of my work using these methods: www.wargaminghobby.com/image/61.html?ref=5

I have been using double ply corrugated plastic. I use glue sticks and have the two layers corrugqtion perpendicular. Works great!

Jem & fix is the only local place I know of that sells foamcore. 199 DKK = 36 US$, 70x100cm = 28x40". When I checked the price, I noticed that they have lowered the price for the black kind to 119DKK (= 21.5 US$). It used to be the same. When I compare those prices with the Dollar Tree prices (1$ for 20x30") I feel like I am being robbed.

Is nitrocellulose glue the clear school glue? No, it is not. It is sold in craft and hardware stores in the same kind of bottles as white glue. The brand that I use pours it into exactly the same sort of bottles so you have to read the label. However I saw an ad for Crayola school glue that clamed it didn't cause warping. Never tried it though.

Here where I live (Warsaw, Poland) a couple of years ago a sheet of foamcore was ca. 20 USD. Last month I bought it at 4 USD a sheet in the same craft store.

Here where I live (Warsaw, Poland) a couple of years ago a sheet of foamcore was ca. 20 USD. Last month I bought it at 4 USD a sheet in the same craft store. I have not checked European online stores. I have checked Danish online stores though. Most of the Danish online stores sell 70x100cm sheets for around 16 USD. The cheapest are around 12 USD. Unless you want to buy an economy packs for 300-800 USD, in which case the price is still about 8 USD, which is 4½ x the Dollar Tree price. The Danish shipping cost are very high, so you have to buy a large quantity before you actually save money. (Many large online stores transports their goods to a neighbour country and then ships them back to Denmark, using the foreign shipping cost and saves money that way ) I hope the price will go down here too.
