There are a lot of pictures of stone golems or something similiar online. But I need a large Fire elementar. It should look like we imagined a Balrog before the Movie (burning giant with glowing whip and flaming wings). Now I thinked about describing it more like the movie version (burning back, horns, .
But the true Balrog miniature form games workshop is simply too expensive to buy it as endboss for a single adventure.
So I thinked about making the miniature myself. I dont have experience with green stuff or something like that. Are there some videos/pictures about making fire elementars/Fire giants.
I thinked about overpaint a demon miniature with red and black and add flames out of structur paste like DM Scottys burning sphere.

For crafting it I'd try model magic or sculptey to form a rough shape of a balrog then let it harden. Or make the shapes you want from tinfoil and cover it in hotglue to make it a solid structure. Whichever method you use next you would use the Flaming Sphere method Scotty showed with the modeling paste. Just cover the model in that flame method and paint it up. You could also buy the Large fire ele from Reaper bones that's $8.99 www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/fire%20elemental/latest/77082If you actually want a Balrog/Balor mini I'd suggest the Legend of Drizzt Boardgame. It uses the 3.5/4.0 D&D Miniatures for its game pieces and can currently be purchased for $35.74 (half the price of the games workshop balrog) with Free Shipping on Amazon. www.amazon.com/Wizards-The-Coast-Legend-Drizzt/dp/0786958731It includes 40 unpainted D&D miniatures: 1 Drizzt Do'Urden (Drow ranger) 1 Bruenor Battlehammer (Shield Dwarf) 1 Wulfgar (Human Barbarian) 1 Catti-Brie (Human female Archer) 1 Regis (Halfling Rogue) 1 Athrogate (Dwarf Battlerager) 1 Guenhwyvar (Panther) 1 Artemis Entreri (Human Assassin) 1 Methil El-Viddenvelp (Mindflayer) 1 Yochlol (Handmaiden of Lolth) 1 Yvonnel Baenre (Drow Matron) 1 Jarlaxle (Drow Mercenary) 1 Errtu (Huge Balor) 1 Shimmergloom Shadowdragon (Note mini is not a shadowdragon but a 3.5 Large Purple/Deep Dragon) 1 Drow Wand Mage 1 Dinin Do'Urden (Large Drider) 3 Drow Duelist 3 Demonweb Swarm 3 Hypnotic Spirit (Clear blue ghost) 3 Medium Water Elemental (Clear Blue) 1 Irontooth (Goblin with an axe) 2 Feral Troll (Large minis) 3 Bloodseeker Drake (medium lizards) 3 Graypeak Goblin Archer 3 Goblin Cutter The games worth the $36 bucks alone for the miniatures especially since the Balor/Balrog demons are so expensive on their own. Reaper also makes a Balrog like demon in its Bones line for $12.99, it has 4 arms and no whip though sadly. www.reapermini.com/Miniatures/demon/latest/77111

Thanks for the tips, mh, should take a look at this boardgame.
Are the miniatures in 25mm-30mm Scale. I owned the old D&D boardgames and the miniatures are larger then normal miniatures. Gosh-I should start searching for the game and take a look at the miniatures. Maybe I could use them for other monster. :-)

The miniatures are roughly the same 28mm scale as the Pathfinder Battles, Mage Knight, and Heroclix figures. They are exactly the same size as the D&D miniatures line as the majority of them are made from the same molds as the minis from the D&d Mini line from a few years ago, a few are new sculpts though.

This was based on a Paizo Troll Champion (sells for about $14 online) So you can clearly see that I added a fair bit to it, turning it into my Brass City Marshal (a Balrog/Pit Fiend type of Devil). Added wings (this was a base frame made of super sculpey, skinned with green stuff, then sculpted the shoulders with greenstuff to anchor the wings firmly. Removed the lower jaw tusks and sculpted the large curling horns, sculpted the skull a little to blend it all in. Modified chest by adding nipple chains with human heads attached to the ends. Modified the loin cloth, adding pouch filled with human hands, and another human head hanging from the belt. Added a forked devil tail. Removed his weapons and replaced with a sword carved out of a block of hardened Sculpey, painted that with a red hot metal effect. Made a flame whip out of some glue soaked twine, frayed, layered and painted with a flame effect. Added a spiked wrist band. Painted the body with object based lighting technique, adding the glow from the red hot sword and flame whip.

Yes, exactly such a thing I need. Really cool. Have to try greenstuff or something similiar on some ugly demon/troll miniature.

I'm a huge fan of all the D&D Adventure system games (Castle Ravenloft, Wrath of Ashardalon & Legend of Drizzit). The minis come unpainted but are great. I paint mine immediately. My brother purchased extra Balrogs from Auggies GameStore with the intention of modifying them to make differnt balrogs (Auggies is out of stock on them I think). I don't think that you can go wrong buying the D&D Adventure system games if even just for the minis alone. Did I mention that I love the games themselves?
