And so they moved down the spiral staircase to the lower level. A drow stood near a large desk, holding a rapier and glaring at the party. There's a door open behind him but no sign of Hosh'tar. "And so it begins." he says with a sneer. "Thank you for starting what I'm sure will be a perfectly lovely war." "What are you talking about," growled Naltyrr, the assassin from Bregan D'aerthe, "I see no war here...." "Do you think the houses of these poor fools will suffer such an attack upon their members without retaliation, " the drow growled back. "Do you think the wizards of the city will allow the slaughter of so many wizards to go unpunished? Tension is already at a boiling point, thanks to the avatar of Lolth, Danifae Yauntyrr. You have simply provided the spark to ignite the flame." "And who are you? Might we know the name of the one so bold and cunning enough to pit Menzoberranzans wizards and clerics against one another? Might we know which house you serve?" asked Zendina Xorlarrin from behind her cloth veil, as she silently readied her wand... "Merinid Dalael, at your service." he snickered as he gave a florid bow. "As for your second question, I'm afraid that's one I cannot answer. Let us merely say that we are no friends of the Spider Queen nor her spider-kissing clerics." The draegloth, Urathaer started forward with his clawed fingers flexing, as inquisitor Zildrynna Melarn manifested her shadowy, snake headed whip of fangs, the weapon identifying her as a priestess of Lolth, the Demon Queen of Spiders. "Enough!" she shouted, "Slay this heretic..... NOW!" As the party moved into action, the drow used his innate ability to conjure a globe of darkness to make his escape. As they started forward a diminutive creature in a dark cloak and clothed in ragged garments teleported into the room with an audible pop.....He was quickly joined by several others of his kind...
Naltyrr quickly pulled out his garrote and looped it over the head of the nearest dark creeper and cinched it tight, choking the air from the small creature as it struggled against him while the alu-fiend Khaele flew up and on top of the desk to get a better angle from which to assault the creatures. Meanwhile another appeared directly in front of the draegloth...
Another dark creeper appeared and Zendina, the necromancer, cast a dark spell that caused skeletal hands to appear out of the ground, grasping at the creature with their icy fingers.
As quickly as they appeared the dark creepers returned to the shadowways, reappearing at opportune times to attack the party as they followed the path that the drow had taken down the hall and down the some stairs to rooms below...
The appeared behind the dangerous draegloth, Urathear, on numerous occasions, leaving him bloody and angered while Zildrynna and Nadryn tried to react to the teleporting foes...
While Khaele, Zendina and Naltyrr investigate the library they are ambushed while trying to free the wizard Hosh'tar. A drow assassin bloodied the necromancer but paid dearly for it when Naltyrr stabbed him in the back from the shadows...
As soon as Naltyrr had revealed himself from the shadows, the assassin Merinid quickly attacked.....
Naltyrr turned the tables on Merinid by utilizing his trustworthy garrote, but the wily assassin quickly slipped free of the wire, backflipping over the head of Naltyrr and the large table, landing safely on the other side before making an attack himself....
The inquisitor lashed out with her scourge and the fangs of its snake heads sank deeply into the flesh of the two creepers....
It was a tough fight, but they managed to defeat the dark creepers and all the drow assassins save one.... Merinid used a light pellet to escape the fight, but the party managed to rescue the captured Hosh'tar.... Perhaps they will meet the wily Merinid Dalael again in the future....

Tonight our intrepid adventurers arrived at Sez'zia Outpost. They decided to divide into pairs to explore, and keep an eye on one another, while searching for the traitorous priestess Iyellle Faen Tlabbar...The two mercenaries from Bregan D'aerthe, Khaele the Alu-fiend and Nal'tyrr, went to the right while Zedrina, a necromancer from House Xorlarrin, accompanied Zildrynna, the inquisitor/hexblade from House Melarn, explored to the left of the ruined plaza. That left the draegloth Urathear and the nethermancer Nadryn to explore the middle....They noticed that there seemed to be light coming from some sort of flame coming from the far side of the plaza and noticed several shadows flickering upon the walls...Unfortunately the draegloth wasn't as quiet as he hoped to be and the hobgoblin guards heard him and investigated... Seeing the towering draegloth in the distance the hoblin fled back and warned its' compatriots.....The traitor priestess, from Faen Tlabbar, came forward with her hobgoblin guards and quickly ordered her men to attack the draegloth...A grand fight ensued with the alu-fiend first polymorphing into the likeness of the traitor priestess and confusing the hobgoblins, and them charming the real priestess and having her attack the hobgoblins. The draegloth waded into the melee with his claws slashing and slicing through his opponents while the magic users stood back and peppered their foes with ranged attacks...The adventurers managed to kill all of the hobgoblins and capture the traitor priestess. They then fpund their way through the obsidian wall and into the final resting place of an ancient primordial where they performed a ritual of Lolth and added the ancient power from this site to Lolth's Demon Weave.....Having completed the ritual the party returned to Menzobrranzan to report their success and get some much needed rest...(Again all sorry for the blurred pics, camera phone drives me bonkers,,,Hope all have enjoyed this series so far. I hope to post more in the near future. Thanks!) This is very impressive! Well done! I think the 3D "town" makes a great compliment to the 2.5D tiles. Wonderful set piece!

Thanks all! The Sez'zia Outpost piece was fun but a lot of work. Last nights game, with the dark creepers, was indeed truly epic. We had several party members go down to the little buggers as they teleported about the rooms into advantageous positions. The Draegloth had to be revived no less than 3 times in that crazy melee on the stairs after he came to the aid of the nethermancer. The players loved the tension of not knowing if they would survive or not. Then at the end, when the assassin Merinid escaped, you could see the anger and frustration on their faces. They were glad they managed to save Hosh'tar, who had been kidnapped, but know that they are always going to be looking over the shoulders, which when you play a drow is as it should be....

And so our adventurers, with the rescued wizard Hoshtar in tow, return to meet with their employers and discuss what has happened and what will happen going forward. They determine that it is the assassins of the Jaezred Chaulssin that are attempting to start a civil war by pitting the Priestesses of Lolth and the wizards of the Council of Spiders against one another. As the conversation turns to whether or not the wizards should ever or would ever be allowed upon the ruling council things become heated. The High Priestess Ash'ala and the wizard Hoshtar almost come to blows but they are interupted by the appearance of Lolth's Chosen, her Yorthae, Danifae Yauntyrr who informs the group that they are under attack by the Jaezred Chaulssin....
Here the assassin is using shadows and cover to sneak into a more advantageous position while their employers, along with the Yorthae move to engage a few of the enemies... The party is rushed by Shadar-kai and dark creepers led by Half-shadow dragon sorceror... (Our Alu-fiend was missing from tonight's game but her mini can be seen in the background "photobombing" many of the pictures)..... Hoshtar and Danifae engaging some half-dragon fighters.... Ro'kolor and Ash'ala fight some half-dragon fighters that are coming through another set of doors, as Naltyrr the assassin uses the brazier for cover... A Shadar-kai chain fighter, a dark creeper and a hex knight are all caught in Zildrynna's shadowed webs.... The dragonblooded spellspinner levitates up near the roof and launches his attacks... Urathear the draegloth chases down a fleeing Shadar-kai chain fighter and crushes it's skull against the nearby desk.... After the fight Danifae tells the group to rest up and prepare themselves, for it is time that they took the fight to their Jaezred Chaulssin foes....

After discovering that their true foes were the Jaezred Chaulssin, the adventurers were sent out to "cut the head off the snake", to remove Valan Jaelre and his meddling assassins from the city of Menzoberranzan.... permanently. They tracked their quarry to a run down shack that butted up against the cavern wall in the slum district known as the Braeryn, often referred to by its more colorful name: the "Stenchstreets". Rather than assault through the front door, which was guarded by a menagerie of non-drow species, the group decided to infiltrate the lair via the rooftops. The assassin Naltyrr quickly dispatched a trio of goblin guards, before breaking the latch on a trapdoor on the roof. The party climbed down a ladder, and then followed a tunnel back into the cavern wall. They emerged from a tunnel to find a balcony that ringed a meeting room. They stayed in the shadows and stealthily watched the room below as a priestess, one the noted was from House Melarn to Inquisitor Zildrynna's surprise, met with the assassin Merinid Dalael. The assassin left through a door, telling the priestess that she was to wait here while he went to present her offer to Valan Jaelre. The party then sprung their ambush on the unsuspecting traitors below.....The Necromancer began the ambush by laying down an illusory maze of mirrors.... The inquisitor then dropped down some shadow webs on the Jaezred Chaulssin guards.... ....leaving them entangled in the strands.... The swordmage then threw her magical blade at one of the slinking drow rogues leaving him bleeding and bloodied.... She then flew down and attacked another before concealing herself in the shadows.... Meanwhile the draegloth jumped down from the 15 foot balcony and mauled both the bugbear and one of the House Melarn soldiers... Naltyrr the assassin, after single handedly bringing down the traitorous priestess Faeryl Melarn, dropped his globe of darkness and prepared to engage some of the house soldiers.... The party methodically dispatched their enemies and thought they were finished..... When a drow assassin got the drop on Naltyrr, stabbing him in the back and leaving him bloodied and nearly dead.... They quickly dispatched the fool and stopped for a short rest, preparing themselves to follow Merinid Dalael's trail further into the hideout..... (More to come next week..... Sorry for some of the pics being a bit blurry....really hating the camera phone and my shaky hands)

The PC's picked up where they left off, chasing the assassin Merind Dalael down the stairway even deeper into what appeared to be catacombs filled with the ancient bones of dead drow. At the end of the stairs they came to a room full of alcoves, in one of these alcoves was an old stone offering table dedicated to Lolth. As the assassin slipped through a door to the west, a greasy cloud coalesced into the form of a Yochlol, a demonic handmaiden of Lolth. She telepathically interrogated the PC's on their true motives before permitting them to proceed.... The party's own assassin moved forward into the gloom and through the doors to find a large chapel of Lolth filled with chunks of broken, web covered stone and web covered gargoyles. Also within he found Valan Jaelre conversing with a dreaded mindflayer, attempting to form some alliance. The mind flayer was not interested in a fight himself and told Valan and the PC's that it would not intervene, unless someone attacked it directly. Valan immediately ordered his followers, some dragonblooded half drow, some Shadar kai, and some dark creepers, to attack.... The draegloth Urathaer followed Naltyrr into the chapel and engaged the Jaezred Chaulssin heretics, noting that the webs about the room were crawling with hordes of tiny arachnids. With so many of Lolth's beloved creatures about they'd have to be careful not to disturb or damage them.... Naltyrr dropped a globe of darkness to confuse his foes as the battle raged on.... Many more webs were conjured throughout the battle as they fought on.... Forcing Nadryn to use his levitation spell to rise above the webs while blasting his foes with magic missiles and bursts of lightning... Things were looking well in hand until some Hex Knights arrived and managed to kill the necromancer, Zendina of House Xorlarrin. The adventurers vengeance was swift and they managed to kill their foes and find clues and information including the identity of the house serving as the front for the Jaezred Chaulssin's clandestine activities in Menzoberranzan. They returned to Danifae, Ash'ala, Hoshtar, and Ro'kolor carrying not only that information, but the body of Zendina and a Spellfire Manacle whose power could be sacrificed to help fuel Lolth's Demon Weave. Danifae returned Zendina's soul to it's body and instucted the group to rest and prepare for a special assignment. Treachery had been discovered in House Melarn.....and the adventurers were to be Danifae's means of dealing with it.....

When they had rested and regained their strength, Danifae informed the PC's of their next task..... Matron Mother Zhindia of House Melarn had been murdered by Kyrnil Melarn in a bid to take over the House. Kyrnil had attempted to ally with the Jaezred Chaulssin and defy the will of Lolth in the building of the Demon Weave. But Kyrnil had miscalculated and was now out of Lolth's favor. While Ro'kolor led Bregan D'aerthe and some of House Melarn against House Nuryndin, the house who had been the front for the Jaezred Chaulssin, the PC's would hunt down and kill the usurper. They met up with one of House Melarns rangers, a quiet drow named Rezzrym, who led them to an overlook above the city where Kyrnil was anxiously watching the destruction of House Nuryndin. She new that it was only a matter of time, so she was not surprised when Inquisitor Zildrynna Melarn, and the rest of the adventurers confronted her and her bodyguards... Kyrnil ordered her bodyguard forward to engage them but they were quickly dispatched.... Next to fall was her consort, the wizard Orkothur.... Left nearly defenseless, thanks to her being out of favour with Lolth, Kyrnil was grabbed by the draegloth Urathaer who dragged her by her throat to the edge of the cliff that over looked the city. He continued to strangle her in his huge claws until she struggled no more, then he threw her corpse down onto the jagged stalagtites below.... (sorry for the blurry pic) The party then returned to House Melarn where the celebrated Ash'ala's elevation to Matron Mother of House Melarn..... .....but they knew they'd have to watch their backs. For they'd shown just how powerful they are and could be, as well as having made many other enemies throughout their investigation....but such is the life of a drow..... in Menzoberranzan....

Love these campaign threads where we get to see all the cool bits in play. Awesome stuff monkey! I really like your furniture variants. I mean, c'mon, you have a chaise lounge! There is no better way to unfurl one's sinister, evil plot then from the comfort and style of a chaise lounge! "hand-crafted in Menzoberranzan"

Awesome!!! Though I never knew drow loved feather boas so much. LOL..... Thanks all!! Took me a second Gnomez..... That was an inspiration from one of DMScotty's recent vids..... I had been using pipe cleaners as condition markers...but the use of rubber bands, with a larger choice of colours, makes it alot easier.....We tried it out for the first time and found it worked very well.... You can find those in the pet section of your local Walmart...near the fish tank plants and supplies... another DMScotty find that he shared with us in a video..... I also found some other very cool looking crystals in the Holiday ornament section that you may see but to use soon.... I'm glad everyone is enjoying the series.... Last night we had our first player death, but they were lucky enough to have access to a powerful cleric in the chosen of Lolth... We have a couple of players that weren't happy with their characters who are going to be changing theirs out... We are losing our beloved draegloth, and replacing him with a captain of the House Melarn guard (Drow fighter "knight") and our nethermancer has decided to return to his studies within House Xorlarrin, and his spot is being filled by a House Melarn outrider captain (Drow hunter ranger) who has had some experience on the surface in the "Lands of Light." The adventurer's are being sent upward to the surface to recover an artifactto be sacrificied to help build the "Demon Weave", known as the Rod of Ruin or the Sceptre Malevolous, that was last seen in the Realms near the ruins of Hellgate Keep. (heavily modded version of Keep on the Shadowfell ) Lolth's Demon Weave will not be denied!!

"The mists swirled about chaotically, then slowly they parted…. The Blood Lord sat upon his throne of bone and blood oozing skulls, engulfed in darkness and the putrid stench of death and misery. Cries of pain and anguish played in the background of Orcus’ residence of Undeath. Nothing of this reached the dark lord. His blood hazed eyes were lost into the distance, his mind stretching out to listen to the calls and prayers of his dark clergy and followers. Like buzzing flies, their requests and calls for favours left no impression on the Demon Prince of Undeath – his schemes of power were on a level incomprehensible for his mortal followers. But suddenly his eye twitched, a prayer – no not a prayer – a whispered word that brought back memories of lost causes and unpaid debts. Orcus focused his divine attention towards the source, spanning his godlike awareness across planes and dimensions. “Master of Undeath, Tear in the shroud of Death, listen to the words of your humble servant, a maggot in your godlike corpse. I have found out where the followers of Bahamut have hidden the Rod of Ruin! The paladin of Bahamut I defiled and brought back in your name knows of its hiding place, great Master.” The Rod of Ruin – Found! The Blood Lord clenched his fist around the Wand of Orcus, blood dripping between his fingers. This opened up new possibilities, the chessboard had suddenly shifted, and things were titled in his favor again. As lord of the Undead, Orcus had the everlasting patience of the dead, a trait seldom seen among his demonic cohorts and enemies, But Orcus knew that if he waited long enough in the darkness, secrets held in life would resurface in the afterlife. It was just a matter of time, and that time was now. With the Rod of Ruin resurfacing he could send one his pawns to collect it and complete the task once started but never finished – turning the living world into a realm of undeath and eternal darkness. His divine mind immediately identified the hundreds of actions needed for setting the plan in motion but first – he poured a fraction of his essence into the world of the living. His aspect materialized in the crypt of his maggot, pulling darkness and the chill of the grave with it. The priest screamed in terror as his eyes started to bleed at the sight of his true Lord. There were still questions that needed answers and a debt of a soul to be paid… …as the mist congealed and obscured her vision once more, she thoughtfully scratched her chin. This simply would not do. She had schemed too long and too well, to end up ruling over a realm of corpses. She had pawns of her own to move on this sava board. She shivered in unbridled anticipation. What delightful fun this game will be... Danifae waved her arms through the intricate pattern that would open the portal that would take the party to within a hairsbreadth of the surface. When she finished she turned to face them. " Take and use these potions when you exit the other side of the portal. It will allow you to assume a gaseous form so that you may fit through the small crack that will take you to a cave that opens out into the High Forest. Go forth and find the ruins of Hellgate Keep and retrieve the Rod of Ruin for the Goddess, so that she may at its power to the Demonweave!"
