I need to make some barrels for an inn in my adventure but can't find a good easy way. I looked at theDMGinfo's video (the only one I could find other than 2 clay ones) but it looked really time consuming and difficult especially since I need to make quite a few. Any suggestions?

Plastic bottle caps. Two caps and two plastic rings from the bottle. Hot glue the rings to the caps then the caps together and presto! They are quick and tavern sized depending on your caps.

what shinobi said. If using pop bottles use something like Dr pepper or such. they have wider slotting. Looks a bit better. I got a tutorial I'm working on but need to finish painting and taking photos

I would like to see one if those. Sounds like a great idea.

Before I got into Hirst Arts molds and got the accessory mold with barrels in it, I made barrels out of several things, including oven baked clay and cheap epoxy putty. I had an idea to use foam sheets cut to roll into a barrel shape, but I never did that because I got the molds instead. I may try it out just to see if it works. If so you could probably make a couple dozen barrels from a typical sheet of craft foam paper.

I want smaller ones like 1/2 inch wide and a little over 1/2 inch tall(half the size of minis).

You could also use wooden dowels. Find a size slightly smaller in diameter than you want the final barrel to be... cut it to length. Wrap masking tape around the center to build up a little bulge. Glue on "boards" (thin strips of card stock) and bands. Paint.

Glue on "boards" (thin strips of card stock) and bands. Paint. I had a similar thought, but with cheap plastic straws instead of more expensive wooden dowels. Plus straws are hollow, which helps if you want some "empty" barrels. By the way, I decided to try out the foam sheet barrel idea, and it was not good. The foam is very difficult to shape and glue securely. I just don't think it ends up being worth the effort. Which is why I grabbed a straw... You can find straws of varying diameter and strength too with a little looking around at craft or kitchen supply stores. I think you could probably even use cheap plastic tubing.

dowell the diameter you want in the bowing and than dremelling the edges to make the bowing would work too

I was struggling with this very same question today when I noticed a bag of wine bottle corks. First I rounded the ends with a file. Then I took a chisel and pressed indentations up the sides and top with a chisel (any straight metal edge would do, the cork is so soft) to simulate planks. The outline of the barrel cap I managed just by rolling the corner of the flat butt end of my exacto knife along the cork's top edge. Finally I cut thin strips from a cereal packet and glued them around the cork as bands using PVA glue. The rest was just painting the thing. The end result was a 32mm tall barrel 20mm in diameter. It's largish, but fortunately easy to handle. You can see the barrel in detail here. I haven't finished painting the bands yet, since all my appropriate metallic paints had dried up on me.

i used DMScotty's technique to craft barrels, not too long ago. I've found them to be really easy to make and not too time consuming.

yeah DMscotty is probably what you are seeking to do. aside from that you could also just ignore the cutting in that video and use cardstock rounded.

If you have a JoAnn's or Michaels Craft store near you, they sell various sizes of wooden barrels under the Lara's Crafts brand. It's a green topped bag. They have all sorts of barrels and urns that are quite useful, and all you need to do is paint them.

I had to look those up since I have a JoAnn's here locally and the price is definitely right on these things, but they seem a bit large. 1 5/8" seems way too big for general barrels. Could find some use for some but they sound pretty large. Will have to pickup a pack and check them out. Thanks. www.ebay.com/itm/like/271664864618?lpid=82&chn=ps

Those would be large, but right for 54mm figures. As I said, they have various sizes of them. I don't recall the measurement off hand, but they have smaller ones that work perfectly for 28mm figures.
