I dont know whether it would be more kosher for me to do a single thread to take up less space, or to post multiple threads for ease of use like searchability. Sorry, the business analyst in me just wants to collect user stories about the operation of this website and build every thread to suit.....
yeah, i'm still working at 9pm. I can't stop. I have a problem, really.
Anywho, the following few posts will be what i have been up to in my like 2 week absence:

The stone tower: The first use of this 3d piece will be as a part of a wall built around a mining complex. This will be the exposed tower, the one piece standing out from the cliff face to which the walls connect. I took one of these foxhole minis you get in a pack of green army men: Then made a base for it, and made two more bases of the same size. I cut a piece of cardstock to fit, and wrapped it around. I necro'd another plastic skeleton to get the shield and the sword for the coat of arms. Where the cardstock tore i just opened up for windows/murder holes. It is all hot glued to the three bases i made out of standard cardboard, base painted black, then made the stone and mortar look with the chisel tip of a cheap sponge brush. Here's the backside, where you can see the three layers. Not happy about how that middle layer turned out. it droops. But whatever, nobody will care. In retrospect, i would have built a column in the middle, though that would have made it harder to reach inside for when our thief invariably scales the thing and slips in through a window. As always, i apologize for the terrible pics, but i think you get the point. Edit: I should add that there are coffee stirrers supporting the three layers apart from each other, glued atop the cardstock.

The ballista: So the chassy (sp?) for this thing is made out of another green army man piece, the base to one of the giant artillery pieces that come with them. The bows are from other toy skeletons i necro'd. The skull is actually off of the one i tore apart for the tower. The spear also came off of one of the toy skeletons. Seriously, i think everything i make now has a piece of toy skeleton in it...that was an awesome find at the thrift shop. Coffee stirrer base, wide silk thread for the bow, Painted in the way you all helped me salvage my cart. Umber, brown, cinnamon, tan. In that order from basecoat up.

aaaannnnnnddd.....boats. I have a river barge, also works as a longship, i suppose, and a rowboat. Standard dmscotty style boat. This is them packed up for storage: the oars of the rowboat are cut to be the exact size of the diaganol of the boat, so they just slide up through their rings to cross each other. The mast of the longship tucks into the rear deck, from which the coffee stirrer rudder is attached. In retrospect i would have wrapped the interior cut areas of the top level with cardstock before i glued it down, to eliminate the exposed corrugations (and just tuck the excess cardstock underneath, so it is glued between the top and bottom pieces). but alas, i'm not re-doing this, so they look great for a boat tile that will only come out once and a while (seriously, we play in the mountains, boats are a rarity). Here they are with the mast set up and the oars out, my paladin initiate on there for scale (he is human sized)

that's a good way to lose an eye LOL Do you think that's why pirates are always winking? Aaarrrgh.... Seriously, though, I do regret not having a smaller one, this one is too big for the bow of my barge. I could place bit there, but it would dwarf my boat in scale. I could, conceivably, make another that is less siege-weapon size....but that would require more fun. Time and less work time...which I do not have.
