Here's another variant how to do holes:

Instead of using a cardboard circly for the rim, just
- take a twist-off cap,
- glue it on a larger piece of cardstock,
- model some aluminum foil around it for the crater,
- paint as in DMG's tutorial.

Advantages:
- less work
- perfect circle (if that's what you want)
- magnetic inside

Right now I'm waiting for the black color of the prototype to dry - I want to see first whether or not the color sticks to the inside of the twist-off cap and proceed with the other holes only if thiw works out. I'll post mor pics later on.

[update]

The color sticks, so I went on...

Aluminum foil hotglued to cardstock bases, additional texture with hotglue.

Black basepaint (still wet, hence the sheen)

Next thing, apart from DMG's hole accessories (acid pool, spiked trap) will be as separate tail end of the purple worm poking out of a whole. Plus maybe the middle part of a worm, i.e. an 'worm-arch' that can be put on two holes.
