I had to look those up since I have a JoAnn's here locally and the price is definitely right on these things, but they seem a bit large. 1 5/8" seems way too big for general barrels. Could find some use for some but they sound pretty large. Will have to pickup a pack and check them out. Thanks. www.ebay.com/itm/like/271664864618?lpid=82&chn=ps

Such a cool build. Seeing these builds you guys come up with here really has me thinking about every thing I throw away and checking out every clearance rack I see. Awesome job halloweenville.

I am sure I will probably get lynched for this but I wanted to see how it turned out. I primed the cork sheets black and took one of them and drew a grid with a white paint pen. Not sure what way I will go yet but i'm still not a convert to gridless play. Maybe I will stamp the other side and go gridless and then see how my players respond.

I started out last night making some walls for 2.5 Next with various cardboards and some foam board I had here and I wasn't happy with the results. I went to breakfast with a friend today and told him an idea I had and we set to work. All the materials were free for me since they were scrap from a floor job. It took us about an hour to setup guides and cut all the pieces on the table saw and chop saw. We took some laminate flooring and ripped it at 1/2" widths then cut to 12", 6", 3", 2" and 1"x1" lengths. We cut 2 for every 1 and I hot glued the pieces together. They have plenty of weight but the entire box is plenty light enough for easy transportation. In the end I have: (22) 12" (41) 6" (36) 3" (23) 2" (22) 1"x1" Now I just need to figure out how I want to paint them. I was originally planning to print wall textures and glue them on top but since I have gone this far I might as well do it right. I also picked up (8) 12" Cork Board tiles.

I wanted to make some 2D Next tiles but I really didn't want to get into painting them so I decided to try the wall tile from the Heroic Maps modular kit. These literally took minutes to make although the quality doesn't compare to what people are doing here, they are quick and easy to do. I am still torn between 2D and 2D Next as to which direction I want to go. Right now all of our game sessions are at another player's house so 2D-N would be much easier for me transporting but I really do like the looks of the tiles. Anyways, these were done with 2 pieces of cheap foam core and a usps single corrugation box with a wall printing glued to it.

Btw, the reason I ended up going on a tangent is because I think my glue gun is too hot for your method. The glue just kept spreading. I would even do little bits and let it dry first but the next application was so hot it just melted the glue under it and it would spread more. This glue gun is only a few days old and I bought CHEAP. Guess I will need to get a better one, maybe a variable temperature one.

Thanks for the good words guys. I have been bitten hard. Instead of doing one-of items though I need to just sit down and make a bunch of the same thing so I don't have to go back later and do them again. Few more things I made today.

This weekend I took my first stab at 2.5D tiles and my group loved them. Before I go any further I have been tossing back and forth between 2.5D and 2.5N. Right now we play at another player's house so I usually have to lug a lot of stuff around. Personally I really like the space needed, or lack thereof, with 2.5N but I am just horrible at painting and I don't think they will come out well. So that said, until I make up my mind I figured I would try my hand at some props and see how they come out. My daughter was home sick today so I decided to use the idle time to make a few items. I made a couple barrels and a spike trap, both of which came from DMScotty's videos. The last item I got a little creative with. I have been trying to spice up my random encounters. No matter who has dm'd in my group, overland travel has always been boring so I am trying to liven it up. I made this for an encounter with a couple of Ogres or Trolls. I think it came out pretty good for my first try. Any tips or ideas are welcome. I began a 2 week vacation a day early today since my daughter was sick, so I have a lot of time in the next couple weeks. =)

I am always open to trying new things and I would try out 5th edition IF my players were open to it, but I just don't see it happening. I just introduced them to 2nd edition back in November!! I bought 3E, 3.5E and 4E books and they were just not my cup of tea. Too many rules bogging down the game imo. Ya never know but right now, I just don't see it. Also considering that all my players just went out and bought the 2E reprints I don't plan to ask them to buy more books anytime soon.

Been playing D&D for almost 30 years now. Started in 85 with Mentzer Basic. I mostly DM'd over the years and in 95 I was in college and stopped playing. Several false starts over the years kept me from playing or DMing again until last summer. My old group from high school is actually back together again and since November I have been back to DMing. We play a mix of 1st and 2nd editions. We have always used minis and we have a couple Chessex Mega mats that we use but lately, with a group of 6-8 players I am finding it a big hassle getting around the table to draw out the map as they explore. I was looking for some new ideas and I happened to stumble on DMsCraft on youtube and then ended up here last night. Fully inspired I decided to jump in head first this morning with a sheet of foam core I had laying around. I drew out a 1" x 1" grid and got to work. I am ready to try gridless and am going to drop it on my players this weekend and see how it goes. These are the pieces I have so far. I primed them back and sprayed them with a stone finish. I am not sure yet that I like the stone finish. I need to get my acrylics out and get painting though to finish them up. I am getting an idea of the basic pieces I need and then I will work on custom rooms. I know now I need more staight pieces, some hall endings, and definitely more rooms.
