So, out of a variety of different folklore, myths, and legends, Baba Yaga has always been one that is the most interesting to me. And others, it seems, because her Hut is a relic of awesome power in both D&D and Pathfinder.
Now I recently remarked that I had planned to craft Baba Yaga's hut, and since then the prospect has stewed in my mind. It's been awhile, but my deliberation process, while long, is often rewarding.
But I want to hash out some kinks here before I go ahead with crafting.
First, I should note that this is going to be a two part project.
The first is the exterior, which is going to be classic "Small Hut on Chicken Legs." I initially tried crafting from scratch, but too manyproblems arose, so I opted instead to cheat by purchasing a cheap walmart birdhouse, which I am modding for the outside. It is meant to look ramshackle and almost hovel-esque, with distinctive birdlike qualities (legs, of course), and also come off as very witchey. Then I have to craft a yard and a fence, with a bone gate and skulls on skewers.
The second (more fun) part is the interior. This will be crafted almost as a unique game board. I am creating it to be circular in shape (jaringly contrasted against the generalized squarish shape of my birdhouse frame), with modular tile inserts...basically I am making the rooms seperate as individual tiles that fit together in a circular shape.
The inside will essentially be a peculiar, complex wizards tower, despite being small on the exterior. However, the hut will have a unique mechanic: the dancing of the hut (determined to occur randomly) will move the tiles around so that navigating the hut will be very difficult (thus why each tile is required to be built modularly to fit in a circular framework).
The goal, of course, to reach Baba Yaga, whose fickle nature dictates that she may be helpful or catastrophically dangerous to the player(s). And, naturally, plenty of encounters with various minions as well.
So, thats my general idea layout. Ideas or suggestions are welcome. I'll be crafting this soon, so anticipate pics.
